I really love the world building so far.

The fact that this has not been adapted into an anime film or show astounds me because this is such a great manga and I can’t wait to see how this ends! Basically Naoki Urasawa took the concept of Osamu Tezuka’s Astroboy universe (especially since Astroboy was born in 2003) and created something new specifically Pluto (who is the Astroboy’s chief villain).

This reinterpretations deals with a murder mystery with Detective Gesicht as he tries to connect a series of murders between humans and robots. In this world, 7 major robots were created with artificial intelligence that have the potential to be weapons of mass destruction. They are close to being untouchable until one of the robots, Mont Blanc, is obliterated. Gesicht mission is to solve the murders and warn the other robots before it’s too late.

I know of Astroboy but to be honest I have zero recollection of his origin story and I thought that would ruin the experience and it doesn’t. The world reminds me a lot of Bladerunner especially the fact that Gesicht is a robot proves to me that it even dives deeper into that realm which I completely and utterly love. The manga illustration gives me 90s vibe animation which is always a soft spot in my heart.

Pluto opens a door as to why robots and humans are getting killed. I can understand why robots get killed because of mankind’s irrational fear but the humans in this story are fighters for ethics and equality for robots. Also there’s this killer robot who truly fascinates me and reminds me of Hannibal Lecter if he was a robot.

Overall this first volume was the perfect combination of mystery and suspense! It definitely made me feel lucky that I had the second volume in my disposal. If you are looking for an intriguing and classic type of anime then please check out Pluto!

great art, i think with a stronger ending it would have been a lot more memorable and impactful i think the last like 20 chapters detracted a lot

I was skeptical because I came into this knowing that it is based on Tezuka Osamu's Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atomu) series-- I appreciate Tezuka's work but Astro Boy is not among my favorites. Pluto has beautiful artwork and creates complex and compelling characters that make readers question assumptions about society and humanity in the best way. I'm eagerly planning to continue on in this series, and to explore other works by Urasawa.

A manga classic in which one that made me wonder of how two different generation of mangaka able to collaborate. I found my answer in this volume and truth to be told, I'm impressed. Urusawa is the master of mystery and storytelling. Making a reader on the edge of their seats!
