I didn't realize that I've finished this volume, because I read it online, haha! Very nice, the plot is great, characters are hilarious, and I'm intrigued with the manga that Shuujin and Saiko are going to creat. These talented people, I'm impressed, nothing less than I expected from this well-known manga, there are some issues that I have with this manga but well, not going to comment on that yet. Still need to get use with the drawing style, because I've never read Death Note, and my previous manga experience is more different than this, but anyways, 4 stars! Definitely continue this series!

I feel the same way about this after rereading it. I definitely noticed the super sexist things in this volume like I did the first time reading it. But I really enjoyed how much I learned about the process of creating a manga.

This was so good! I’m learning so much about how manga is made. I almost gave up on reading it because I thought it had a cheesy love story, but it’s so much more than that. I’m definitely going to continue reading this series.
I would rate this more as a 4.5 Stars because I didn’t like the gender stereotypes, like “girls should be like this” or “guys should do that.” It was so sexist in my opinion. But the story is so good and entertaining.

The whole idea of them being middle school students and Moritaka already deciding to marry that one girl strikes me as extremely naive, but then again this is a manga so I should keep that in mind.
Also it seemed suuuuuper sexiest to me but everyone loves this series so I'm uncertain
Is it the culture shock? This is my first manga so I'm not sure if thats a culture thing or only specific to this one manga.
Despite the low rating, I still am planning to continue, hoping the sexism gets better and the characters a little more likeable.

La verdad es que es muy introductorio, no pasa prácticamente nada en la historia. Aun así, el concepto y el tema me gustan.
It had an original idea and concept that made you think twice about the world of mangakas :3. Usually, for shounen mangas, there are fighting and violence, but in this series, it talks about two boys with a passion for shounen manga. :D FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!!!
Note: I did not read this in German. I read the English translation, which I cannot find on Good Reads!
I loved every second of this! Romance, art, friendship, heartache, humor... what more could you want?
Both my daughter and I love reading manga and on one of the more recent library trips we randomly picked a few that looked interesting. From what I can tell, she's been loving this one. After she finished the series I decided to read Bakuman as well.
While the story in itself is really interesting, i.e. if you're interested in slice-of-life stories and in particular how manga are created, I found the attitude of Akito Takagi - one of the main protagonists - to be extremely sexist. This wasn't done in a way to show that he has a disturbing view of women in general, but seems to be partially the message of the story itself. Smart women who know they are smart aren't attractive and other gems like this make you want to smack the mangaka with a trout.
Now that I've read the first volume I'm going to have a chat with our daughter, because obviously that's not the kind of message I want her to adhere to. Reading mangas together means we have a common passion, but it also gives us an opportunity to talk about many of the things that are simply wrong in them: misogyny, sexism, portraying girls and women as sexual objects, and the list goes on.

I am a massive fan of anime but have never gotten around to reading manga. I had heard about Bakuman and the concept of it appealed to me. I finished the first volume in one sitting and really enjoyed it. I really recommend it to anyone new to the Manga genre and wanting to try it.
