all the records and memories we’d kept were soon forgotten, for history is all too easily rewritten and the past is all too easily erased.

i forgot how the beginning of this started, but i loved relearning about the sightwitches and everything that goes into getting the sight! there was also just something so eerie about the one line chapters counting down to ryber being the only sightwitch left in the entire convent.

i made some notes while reading this but most of them are along the lines of: i vaguely remember [character] doing this, and for the most part i wasn't wrong!

speaking of vaguely remembering things, one of those moments revolved around kullen. i was like i swear this man is in this book, and then he came out of nowhere and dying!! i loved when ryber had the internal conflict involving rule 37 (kill all outsiders who are men) but she managed to talk herself out of it because technically he wasn't in the convent..

i've talked a lot about the ryber/kullen storyline to this book, but i loved the dysi journal entires in this! there's something about a dual pov / timeline that just makes me love a book so much! i especially loved towards the beginning when it would go from ryber frantically running through the crypt to dysi living her quiet life at the convent, helping lisbet and cora adjust to life as a sister.

i just love this book so much and it's definitely my favourite within the series! i just think ryber is such a strong character, and i'm so happy that by the end of the book she's starting to understand who she really is and that she can in fact make her own decisions<3

Wow, wow and wow. Did I love this book. Apart from the dustcover, that is. But let's not go there.

This is the history of the Sightwitches that is told in this book in form of journal entries of mainly two Sightwitches. They reveal a lot of the foundations of the witchlands, its core conflict, so to speak, and the magic that runs through everything.

Loved the romances as well that showed up in this book. For once they were unproblematic and refreshing just by the fact that there was a recognition of having found the right partner and from there onwards a relationship with deeper meaning starts to unfold. I found this so relaxing and just so good to read.

The book is in itself complete and for that I loved it. And the quests we go onto, the moment we start reading this book.

When I was finished reading it, I wanted to go back to book 1 and 2 of the main series and reread the books now that I have this background information. Very well done, Susan Dennard.

Sightwitch was freaking amazing and it’s not like I didn’t expect it to be, because I did. I actually procrastinated reading because I knew I wouldn’t want it to be over. I really didn’t want it to end when I finished reading. It’s a shorter book but

This story is set prior to Truthwitch and gives us such a great insight into the Sightwitch sisters history as well as all of the Witchland history. I enjoyed all the Sightwitch sisters and learning about them through different journal entries. Of course I also loved The Rook too.

I’m obsessed with Ryber. I love her, maybe even more than I love Iseult and Vivia. I want to reread the first books in her POV. She is just an awesome character. I can’t gush enough about her! She makes me laugh that she is such a rule follower and she is also smart, clever and witty. Her interactions with Tanzi and Kullen make me want to say can you be my friend too? Love love her.

I also really liked reading the entries for Eridysi. Sightwitch adds so much to the rest of the series. So many things!! I loved getting this little bit of history from a thousand years ago. It was so interesting!!

The World Building is solid and it happens in such a small space when you think about it. The Covenant and the Mountain are our backdrop. These places were so flushed out though and they came vibrantly to life in my mind through the illustrations and descriptions. It made me love the style that this book is written in even more. I love the Witchlands. I always feel like I’m in a video game and I love feeling that way. Although the skull spider thing just kept making me think of Skulltulas that are in Zelda, I’m pretty sure that’s not what they look like but I couldn’t get it out of my head. I'm always a fan to see what creature is going to come out of the woodwork, or ice in this case. The Shadow Wyrms are freaky!!

I could gosh about this book all day. I really loved it and what it adds to the series. It makes it that harder to wait for Bloodwitch but it also made me want to reread Truthwitch and Windwitch to catch all the things I probably didn’t the first time. Especially armed with this new information.

I had the opportunity to read an excerpt from the upcoming novella Sightwitch by Susan Dennard. This novella is part of the Witchlands series and takes place before the events of Truthwitch.
I normally only read novellas as ebooks but would definitely recommend buying this one as a physical copy. I know I will ;)
There are a lot of illustrations in the book and personally I think that just works better on a page than on my small phone screen. The formatting was also a bit off which made it somewhat harder to read at certain points.

This novella is about Ryber, a character we met in Truthwitch but didn't really get to read about in Windwitch. I liked getting to know her better and enjoyed the way it was done. The novella consist mostly of journal entries, most of them are Ryber's but there are others as well. I really liked Tanzi's journal entries and thought they really showed you more of who Ryber is.

It was interesting to read about the Sight Sisters and I can't wait to learn more about Sightwitches. As I mentioned not all journal entries are by Ryber, some of them are by Tanzi, her Treadsister. But there are others as well and I'm super interested in seeing how they will play into the overall plot of the book. I'm expecting them to be of importance in the end!

All the Sight Sisters apart from Ryber have gone missing and she needs to find them. At the same time there are Nubrevnans setting up camp close by. We know Kullen was with them and we all want to know more about Ryber and Kullen right? The excerpt ended on quite the cliffhanger and I can't wait to continue reading this novella the moment it releases!

"But maybe the marked path isn't always the right one. Maybe," he dragged out that word as if still thinking, "there isn't one set path at all.”
"Of course there is. There are no coincidences, and there is no changing what is meant to be."
"But how do you know that? How do you know all of this"―he twirled his hand―"is what you're meant to be and not something else?"
4.75 stars, but I'm rounding up to 5 because I had such a fun time reading this. I like that it's set up in the form of diaries, presenting information as the characters know it rather than letting us see it from an outside point of view. While I absolutely adore Ryber, I found myself enjoying Eridysi's entries a lot more. I'd love to see her story in full as an entire novel, because the story she had to tell was so interesting.
There's a lot of foreshadowing done in this book, and I AM HERE FOR IT.
But then she patted at my stomach. "Him," she said emphatically. "Though I won't get to meet him for a very, very long time."
SHE'S TALKING ABOUT AEDUAN. SHE HAS TO BE. SHE SAID SHE WON'T GET TO MEET HER BROTHER FOR A "VERY, VERY LONG TIME." IN WINDWITCH AEDUAN RESCUES A LITTLE GIRL AND YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME THAT IT ISN'T LISBET. But then that raises the question of how in the hell is he Dysi's child when she lived a thousand years ago? And went into the ice? But I'm telling y'all. He just has to be her child. And maybe I'm thinking too much into it, but I think the general, Dysi's Heart-Thread, is the Rook King. Hear me out. When were they in the same room. The general was never in the meetings even though he was incredibly important to the cause, and when Dysi was talking to the Rook King, before they spoke to the general, the Rook King conveniently got called away? That might just be me theorizing on something incredibly small, but y'all... I have theorized on things with far less information and been right. We'll see. Maybe I'm wrong.
BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I'M NOT WRONG ABOUT? LOVING THIS BOOK. THANKS.

Sightwitch is undoubtedly my favorite book in the series so far. For one, the format was not just blocks of text, their were drawings, and letters, and they made the experience more enjoyable. For another, I found the story line was much more interesting than the previous Witchlands books. I actually was invested in the characters, and I wanted to know what would happen next.
I am anxious to read Bloodwitch, and will do so as soon as possible.

2.5 stars

This was an okay book. I honestly didn't understand the importance of a lot of things and felt a little lost, so maybe instead of #0.5 in the series it should be #1.5 or something.
