The Proposal Play is the 3rd book in the Love and Hockey series, but don’t worry — you can read this one as a standalone.
I didn’t read the previous books and I can enjoy this one exciting without feeling like I missed out on anything crucial.
The story follows Maeve and Asher, whose chemistry as friends and lovers is intense and compelling.
The characters are incredibly lovable; I enjoyed their interactions, particularly Asher with his dads, and Maeve with her brother and best friends.
Watching Maeve and Asher have fun, be vulnerable, and share their fear and feelings added depth to their relationship.
As much as I like the slow-burn romance between Asher and Maeve, there were moments when it felt prolonged and a bit frustrating.
Their reluctance to be honest with their feelings seemed drawn out, especially knowing they would eventually get together at the end.
Overall, it was an enjoYable read and gave a refreshing experience in a genre I don’t usually read.
I adore the characters and the easy-to-read writing style. However, I do wish it had been a bit shorter to keep the pace more engaging.
Despite that, it was a sweet and fun read that I'd recommend to sport romance fans.
Thank you to Good Girls PR, the author and publisher for giving me an e-ARC of the book. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!

This was the friends to lovers hockey romance of my dreams. It’s spicy, sweet, fun, and heartwarming. Asher is the ultimate golden retriever book boyfriend. He’s kind, thoughtful, considerate, puts Maeve first, and is willing to do anything for the people he cares about. He’s such a cinnamon roll, but he’s also complex. He’s damaged from some trauma in his past, and I really appreciated the way Lauren handled his anxiety and obsessive tendencies. Maeve is a tornado in human form. She’s chaotic, high energy, down for anything, and absolutely wild. I loved watching her dreams come true, and realizing that her soul mate was right in front of her and had been for ten years. Asher and Maeve are so cute together, and totally perfect for each other. Their story was the sweetest, and I adored it. And Maeve’s friend group is absolute goals. They’re so supportive and amazing, and I loved their interactions. I was lucky enough to receive an ALC as well as an ARC, and the dual narration audio was spectacular. Vanessa Edwin and Robert Hatchet did such a great job! I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one!

I have enjoyed this series and was excited to see Asher's story. In the other books, we got glimpses of him as a well liked hockey player. This love story is between Asher and his best friend, Maeve, who also happens to be his hockey teammate's sister.
Maeve wins an auction with a date with Asher and goes to Vegas and of course...gets married. The end up keeping up with the marriage to help each other and of course sees each other in a new light. The banter between them is great and I love how they both resisted each other. The slow burn is so good.
I love that this book addresses some mental health issues and also the support friends. It was great seeing characters from the series as well.
The duet narration of Vanessa Edwin and Robert Hatchet brought the romance to life.
Thank you @laurenblakelybooks @hambright_pr for the audiobook.

I’m a sucker for friends to lovers and marriage of convenience…Maeve and Asher were so cute! I got a little annoyed because of how long it took for them to finally spill how they really felt..it just seemed to drag a little at times but I get it..I’m glad there wasn’t really a third act break up…it was more like a one/two day break but I love that they both were willing to fight for their relationship…I didn’t understand the proposal again at the ice rink..that just seemed like they were admitting that they had tricked everyone but 🤷🏻♀️

I don't know how Lauren keeps doing it, but thank goodness she does! This book was fantastic.
Tropes:
Hockey Romance
Best Friends to Lovers
Brother's Best Friend
Marriage of Convenience
It's Always Been You (just didn't know it)
Asher and Mauve are so good. They're best friends, and have been for years. She buys Asher in a charity bid to save him from someone else, so they end up going on a date to Vegas together. They have fun, and they figure, why not have an adventure and get married as a prank on her brother? Too bad word gets out about their prank wedding...
I loved both of their journeys to realizing their love for each other in the little things they did. Ashe's realization was heart melting, and Mauve's support of him and vice versa was great. I can't recommend this series enough.
🌶🌶.5

Wow, Lauren Blakey’s newest hockey romance The Proposal Play is one of her best stories yet! I am in heaven with Asher Callahan and Maeve Hartley. These two have overcome a lot together thanks to their friendship that developed over the last decade. Both Maeve and Asher have experienced some pretty tough/sad situations that brought them to the same support group where they and Maeve’s brother became best friends. Yes, The Proposal Play is a rom-com but at the same time the reader will experience a lot of emotions because who wouldn’t after learning what all that Maeve, Beckett(Maeve’s brother), and Asher have all been through to get to the point of being best friends. The chemistry between Asher and Maeve is through the roof. Well, of course that chemistry is sky high, Maeve and Asher are best friends who are having a very hard time realizing and accepting the fact that they both are in love with their best friend. Asher, in all honesty does not take quite so long getting to that realization of being in love with Maeve as it takes for Maeve to accept that she is in love with Asher. The question is, “how long will it take for each one to openly admit to being in love with the other person?” BTW-did I mention they made a marriage pact two years earlier at Beckett’s wedding? Yeah, they did and so lots of shenanigans ensue once the pact is executed!! LOTS of shenanigans and many of them are of the steamy variety too!! Now, let’s talk about Vanessa Edwin and Robert Hatchet bringing Maeve and Asher to life in your ears in duet narration!! Wow, these two do a fantastic job. Vanessa has such a smooth voice and a big variety of voices to bring the secondary characters to life with ease. Robert Hatchet, hmmm…what can I say that will do his voice justice? I absolutely love listening to him bring Asher to life. Asher is a character who has lots of vulnerability due to his past while at the same time is a dirty-talking alpha in the bedroom and Robert Hatchet does a fabulous job bringing all these facets of Asher Callahan to life. Such a yummy voice!! Love the story and the narrators! Highly recommend The Proposal Play by Lauren Blakely.
