I really liked this. I found the themes somewhat similar to The River Has Teeth, ghosts and unexplained phenomena and whatnot. I can't wait to read what's next from her.

Moonlight filters through the trees in fits and starts, spreading like quicksilver over the shadowy ground. The fiddle plays and plays and plays, until I expect all the ghosts in the forest to grow solid around me.
Wow. Okay. That was beautiful. What a fantastic combination. Eerie fiddle music mixed with a dark family drama and a ghost story? Yea, that's a winning combination. This book was beautifully written. The prose a little purplish, probably more than is usually to my taste, but it worked for the story. The description of the fiddle music was so haunting, I felt like I could actually hear it.
And I've read a lot of books with a large romance component in the last few days. This is so far one of the few where I felt like all the relationships were really fleshed out, and I really liked all the pairings. I even didn't mind the love triangle aspect which is something that usually bugs me. It might be a "winning by comparison" deal here given how awful the romances in the last few books I've read have been, but still, I'd say either way it was good enough that it worked with the story and didn't detract or anything.
Yea, overall, this was amazing. I'd highly recommend this book to people.

TL;DR: Sombre, slow tale of magical songs and a broken family
Ghost Wood Song absolutely manages to place the emphasis on grief and what that does to a family. The lurking melancholy in Shady's life is always apparent, and tying that together with class and the distinctive music scene of the American South is a neat touch. The book is certainly a little slow and not as creepy as it might be (as I say, melancholy is more the feel), but it generally works and comes together in a satisfying, if not too complicated way. I wasn't convinced by either branch of the love triangle, nor how the whole thing plays out, but ultimately that was always secondary to the heartfelt narrative of a girl and her grief.
7/10 in personal rating system

Really interesting idea, and very creepy hauntings. I had to make a playlist of the songs mentioned in the book!

I've been on a ghost kick recently and while I was expecting there to be more ghosts in this book, I'd say I still enjoyed it. I did not expect this book to be set in modern times when I first picked it up, so I was surprised when it actually was. Luckily, I think I was able to get past that fact and actually get into the story. I wish I could've felt more connected to the side characters and the side romance of the main character though. That's what's impacting my rating the most. Overall, this was a decent read.
