(I've read the new edition)

It didn't do it for me. I was intrigued enough by the story to read it whole, but I got no interest in the characters, the romance, or even the story which ended a bit bleak.

There are battles, which goes by fast. We talk about potential "sacrifice" in the blurb on the back of my book? But that's not really what's happening here, or even being risky. It's battle on battle on battle on battle, here and there a couple Victorian-era season balls, but that's it. It ended up pretty much redundant, except toward the end when there were most risks and losses, which leads towards book 2 with a small cliffhanger.

I haven't felt any chemistry between Aileana and Kiaran, but I do get why they got a bond and why they get closer. I'm a bit sad as I was counting on the romance to make up a bit haha

I sadly won't be continuing the series.

Too much repetition, too much blood thirsty to kill, too much fighting and killing scene which are getting fast annoying...

3.75 Ok I know I love this world. I struggled getting into the original and I still struggled a little with this one. The feelings and fighting were giving me whiplash.
There was a lot that has been changed in this version. The darkness is more overt. Her wit is impeccable. Her mortal friendships are less grounded. Derrick is still sassy but less fashionista. Romance is a slow burn. Hints at lust and self sacrifice.
Definitely gonna keep reading the updated version to see how the story has evolved

The Falconer (#1) by Elizabeth May @_elizabethmay

Why is there not more hype about this book? It was fantastic! Falconer follows Aileana Kameron as she ascends into her power as a Falconer. Falconers are a line of female warriors sent to kill the fairies terrorizing the human realm. This story take place in Scotland and incorporates Scottish folklore into the story. Scottish folklore is my personal favorite and Fae one of my favorite fantasy characters, so when I found this I jumped right into it. That being said, I read this book in 24 hours, lost a large amount of sleep, and immediately jumped into book two. The action in this book is spot on. The romance is angsty, raw and absolutely delicious. If you haven't read this you are missing out on an excellent fantasy story.

4 stars for me! I would easily reread this for another delicious taste and if you haven't read it (and you love fantasy) shame on you.

More like a 2.5 but I'm feeling mildly generous. Can I please just get a female protagonist who can stay on task and not get distracted and ridiculously side-tracked by some "perfect", broad-shouldered, brooding, and for some reason unattainable guy?! Please?!?
Aside from that, the story was okay, the fairies sort of interesting. I liked Scotland as a setting and I liked Derrick. I may be talking myself into a two-star review if I keep going.
