DNF at 27%. This book is just not good. I mean I didn't under the first chapter and it paints bernie as a racist just for caring more about class struggle. he is a white man of course he's gonna have more struggles with class then race. Just overall not productive in anyway and will not be picking up again.
A meticulous but approachable examination into an ever-present aspect of American history and culture. Oluo's writing is engrossing and erudite; scholarly but clear in its message. This is a must-read, especially in a post-Roe America as it conveys how exactly the United States ended up where it is now. White male supremacy (and mediocrity) has shaped this country and set a toxic and dangerous standard.

This is a great collection of essays that encompasses many aspects of how mediocre white men have been able to gain power in our society, particularly in the United States. These range from the colonization of Native American lands and resources, positions in the US government, and even American football.
This book really helps gain some perspective on where the challenges lie when non-white cis men try to get into certain positions of power, or even within fields that have been dominated by white cis men. I highly recommend this book to everyone since it serves as a good jumping point for discussions on multiple topics regarding today's society and, even years after publication, remains highly relevant (unfortunately).
