Loved this book. Had a slow start but I think it’s needed to understand how angry Lore is and to see her character development flourish. There is a tiny romance subplot but it doesn’t overwhelm the main plot of the book. The plot’s twists and betrayal at the end is so heart wrenching! But they all made sense, it wasn’t a twist just to have one, it made sense to the story. With it being a standalone the questions you have throughout the book do get answered and you get a solid conclusion to the story and a happy ending.

I had high hopes for this book, I really did. I bought it because TikTok made it famous and I like Greek mythology, you know? But I was so disappointed.

What I didn't liked:
1. The introduction of characters. At first I was so confused because I though that maybe this wasn't the first book. The author was introducing characters left and right like I was supposed to know who they were, and I didn't

2. Athena. Like, I loved her so much, she was the only reason I kept reading this book, and then it turned out that she was bad? Goddamn!

However, the book had a lot of great quotes, so here at my favorites:

You could only convince yourself something was prey until it turned around and showed you its teeth.

“It’s not always the truth that survives, but the stories we wish to believe. The legends lie. They smooth over imperfections to tell a good tale, or to instruct us how we should behave, or to assign glory to victors and shame those who falter. Perhaps there were some in Sparta who embodied those myths. Perhaps. But how we are remembered is less important than what we do now.”

^^ USA history books be like

Sometimes, he’d said, the braver thing is to accept help when you’ve been made to believe you shouldn’t need it.

“I gave her fury power,” Athena said quietly. Lore turned to her, confused. “I transformed Medusa,” Athena continued, “so that she would have protection against all those who would try to harm her.” “That’s bullshit. You didn’t give her a choice, did you?” Lore bit back. “And now history remembers her as a villain who deserved to die.” “No. That is what men have portrayed her as, through art, through tales,” Athena said. “They imagined her hideous because they feared to meet the true gaze of a woman, to witness the powerful storm that lives inside, waiting. She was not defeated by my uncle’s assault. She was merely reborn as a being who could gaze back at the world, unafraid."

“All I have ever desired is to do that which I was born to do.” “Which is?” Lore prompted. “To guide the hearts of warriors, the minds of philosophers, and the hands of artisans,” Athena said. “And to never again fail to defend a city under my protection.”

“Lore.” He kept that same soft tone. “I was born knowing how to do three things—how to breathe, how to dream, and how to love you.”

I reallllly wanted to like this but I didn't? There was just so much going on I felt confused untill the end. Also books that are this long and only spent less then 10% on the end is just a no no for me.

1.5

I really liked this book. I enjoyed the concept and the Greek mythology, I thought it was fun and interesting. I wish there was a sequel or more books in the world

I think if I had been a Percy Jackson kid rather than a Twilight kid I would’ve liked this book a lot more. It was just fine. I felt like I k we exactly what was going to happen the entire time though. Once it ended I was just kinda like “yeah.”

No me enganché PARA NADA :(

Just going to echo what others have said- Percy Jackson meets Hunger Games is a pretty good synopsis. There were a couple twists I didn’t expect too. It was a pretty bloody but good adventure.

this whole book was just: meh.
