I liked the plot behind Moyes book, and am a general fan of her writing style. This book, to me, wasn't as good as the others I've read from her, but I did enjoy it. She did a great job of showcasing the limited options for women in the late 50s/early 60s, and the struggle for women caught between the old model of "womanhood" and the freedom that came in the 60s. And I loved how, when she jumped to present day, she showed how romantic communication has changed, with love letters moving to cryptic texts.
That said, the book didn't stand for any particular reason though. It was good, for sure, but not great.

Boring at first…picks up in the modern era…the first half needn’t have been so long to lay the groundwork
Veryyyyy slow to start and just at it was getting good, it was over.
"I knew in the moment you looked up at me that if we did this I would be lost. I would not be able to put you aside, as I had with the others. I would never be satisfied with just a part of you. I had been fooling myself to think otherwise.
A classic rather historic love story with missed opportunities and heartbreaks along the way. Love and hope that lasts through almost 3 generations before the final chapter.

Jag stör mig på översättningen, dialogen låter ganska ofta onaturlig. Folk använder ju inte skämtsamt uttryck som ”ditt odjur” (antar att det är typ ”you bastard”?) för att ta ett av många exempel.

Dragged for quite a bit. The last section wasn't that necessary, for you didn't care much about the main character overall. I think they could have ended it at the end of part two or resolved the cliffhanger and then ended it.
