Pretty fast-paced and engaging read.
From the start I had an inkling that
Ted and Lauren were the same person
, but after Dee showed up I started second-guessing myself... and then plot twist that
Ted, Lauren, AND the cat were the same person
?? Solid plot twist, definitely kept me on my toes

Wow. What to say about this book. I would love to read it again for the first time. This book was confusing, sad, funny, terrifying, thought-provoking, and deeply moving. It's not my normal genre, and I highly recommend going in blind. I think everyone should read this book.

it's hard to find the words for this -to describe this as a compassionate and even sometimes tender horror novel almost sounds like an oxymoron. full of incredibly-crafted scares and a sense of building dread, while also examining trauma, mental illness, and the long lasting impacts of abuse. the hype is definitely deserved! the author clearly did her research, especially around mental illness and
Spoiler dissociative identity disorder
. i do not have a that diagnosis so i can't speak to the accuracy, but the afterward details conversations she had with others - i'd love to see some community perspectives on this.

cw for child abuse, suicidal ideation

3.5..maybe 4?? I don’t know??? What the frick did I just read?? I’m not even sure how to rate this because I was so confused most of the time but I also read 95% in one sitting so it obviously had a grip on me. I had to sit and think about everything and read others conclusions to make sure I fully understood what the heck I just read. Honestly, very impressive book. You will think you have something figured out but you really don’t. If you read this, go in blindly and just know it’s wild ride and don’t feel dumb if you’re confused
