This book was just incredible. I am almost without words to say how much I loved everything about this story. http://everydayreading.blogspot.com/2011/08/unbroken-world-war-ii-story-of-survival.html
This was a fascinating read! For as many WWII books that I have read, none have been from the point of view of a prisoner of war. This was a true story of resilience and determination. It got off to a slow start, which is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
This was one impeccably researched, detailed, well-written book. My admiration for these Allied POWs is sincere. They chose to fight for their countries and then chose to fight for their lives. I found Louie's story very difficult to read because so much of his life he faced hatred, violence, and evil. I don't ever want to reread this book and I don't think I'd like to see the movie, but I'm glad I read the stories of these men.
Amazing.
I read this for the Bookworm Bitches Book Club (February selection). So often, WWII history centers around Hitler & the Holocaust. This book reminds us we were fighting the war on another front, and the conditions for those battles were just as horrific. Louie is a true hero as were the other POWS that were imprisoned with him.

One of the best books I have read. As the granddaughter of a Purple Heart & Silver Star recipient, i particularly appreciate the story of Pacific WWII being brought to light.

This is a non-fiction account of an Olympic runner turned bomber during WWII who was captured and held in a Japanese prison camp. As a true account, it was obviously difficult to read at times; I had to keep reminding myself that this all really happened. I love a story of resilience in the face of challenges beyond what it seems the human psyche and physical body can manage. Makes for a great book club discussion.
Can I give this book 6 stars? What an amazing story and a must read! I Highly recommend the audiobook if you're into that type of thing!
This is an incredible story that made me cry, laugh, and understand more than I did before. It's a story of hope from a man who has been through the worst of the worst.
Fabulous true story! Such a powerful look at human strength and the ability to recover and forgive.
