I had devoured this book until I got about halfway through it. The writing is really good—I definitely agree with the Bridgerton comparison! It feels modern but it takes you back to that time.
Violet and James had such good chemistry, and I absolutely loved the banter, while also getting an inside look into both their heads while their quarrels were afoot.
However, as soon as James started flirting with Lady Fitzwilliam, I put the book down for a week. It felt so out of character for James (and I know that’s kind of the point of it happening) but I just do not like the insinuation of possible affairs. I’m glad Violet knew what was up, and I’m glad I picked it back up and pushed through that bit because I love how it ended. They grew together as a couple, and are going to be happier than ever!

Oh for the love of Satan.

I don't think this author and I are sympatico. Oddly enough, I didn't mind the characters, minus the utterly asinine, mule-headed inability to have a conversation with each other, their friends, or themselves. Also, the weird "pranks" they pulled on each other were just...not okay. At all. I was distinctly uncomfortable from very early on.

I'm concerned that anyone faking a serious illness (or an AFFAIR) with no thought to the consequences has no business being called an adult, and should be committed.

Emotional constipation and deficient emotional intelligence takes on a whole new meaning with this. If you dislike the miscommunication/pride trope, please give this away to someone with more patience than I.

A fun, light-hearted regency romance novel - similar to the Bridgerton series and so many others from this time. While I appreciate some of the character development and the fact that the main female character sticks to her resolve, overall it is a bit predictable and drawn out as a plotline.

witty tale of finding love again within a broken marriage

why do i love this book. what drugs did they put in this. i literally love this trope. i remember nothing about this other than it was swoon-worthy. i would recommend this to izzy holder. idk why it says kindle edition.

I enjoyed this more than I expected.
Regency romance / historical fiction not usually my thing.
This was fun and witty banter / arguing.

4 stars but I think this book is highly underrated so I’m rounding up. This is a rom com-ifed version of bridgerton and I liked it a lot.

Listen, if this plot took place in modern day, you best believe I would be a big time hater! It’s so dumb. But it took place in the 1800s so I’m prepared for everything to be dumb bc that is such a dumb time. Of course there’s miscommunication issues and stunted emotional intelligence and whirlwind romance and societal pressures.

I thought the characters were SO dumb and acting SO poorly that it felt like reality tv and I was v entertained.

Again, if literally any of this happened in a more recent time period I would be outraged and underwhelmed, but I think the hijinks were appropriate, albeit a little too convenient/simple, with how they ended up playing out.

The characters lacked depth but whatever bc the love was there (for no obvious reason) but more importantly the witty banter!! Omg I laughed out loud a few times.

I will also say I listened to this on 2x speed, this is absolutely not something I would sit with and enjoy, it was truly a quick fru fru read. Scrumptious!
funny lighthearted
