I really enjoyed this historical romance. Both Violet and James are fordable forces to be reckoned with. A misunderstanding draws them a part for 4 years and one Iill conceived accident prompts a hilarious and blood thirsty plot for revenge. While I did think that it dragged on a bit too much it had the effect it intended. They desperately craved the attention and love from the other and created arguments in order to stay connected. Plenty of angst and laughs. Bravo.

During her first season, Lady Violet Grey met and was caught up in a whirlwind romance with Lord James Audley. A true love match, they were hastily married, but after a year of wedded bliss, they had one fight that brought their relationship to an apparent halt.
Four years later, they barely speak to each other and, after what could be construed as a simple misunderstanding for other people, they’ll embark on a game of deceit and manipulation that will either bear a winner or kill them both.
Unconventional as she is, Violet won’t take her husband’s indifference without a putting up a proverbial fight and the very proper James will not allow his wife to manipulate him further. With the complicity of their extremely meddling friends, these two will also involve an actor and other people in the play of their discombobulated relationship just to get on each other’s nerves.
As soon as I read the blurb I knew I had to read this story. I Love Lucy meets War of the Roses in this fun and romantic tale. I found myself laughing out loud more times that I expected while I fell in love with the stubborn couple.
The writing was fluent and extremely creative, though I found the book a tad long for my taste. Still, it was a witty and charming read about two people in love who fight for their relationship in the most unconventional way.

Here's the thing, if your main characters are being so annoying and stubborn that you feel the need to have every supporting character tell them to stop being childish and talk things out, there's a strong chance your reader is going to be equally frustrated with their neverending antics.
this was soo charming despite how frustrating it is to read about a 4 year long argument. I loved the entire cast of characters too, I’d read a book about every one of them! I know the sequel only just came out and I’ve only read this first book but tbh while I was reading this I kept thinking this series and these characters are way more worthy of the Shonda Rhimes treatment than Bridgerton :( I’m sorry don’t hate me but you know this would have been such a cute Netflix show!!
I'm glad the story resolved itself. It was okay. I always find lack of communication and blatant miscommunication more than mildly irritating when it's the main conflict of a story. I did like that both characters had to figure out how to stand on their own away from the supporting roles in their lives to really understand and get a food picture of what they needed to do to make things work.
came in with high hopes but i think i just found their game tedious through the middle. 3.5 stars
AHAHAHAGAH IT WAS SO GOOD!! Everyone please go read this book! I loved the buildup and the ending. Such a cute story!
DNF at 20%. I usually stick with it but I was so annoyed I couldn't do it.
Violet and James were the love match of their season with all the passion that goes along with it, but five years later they are barely speaking to each other. Still when Violet gets word that James has been thrown from his horse at their country estate, she rushes to be at his bedside only to discover that he’s back to riding again. Wanting to get him back, Violet decides to feign her own mysterious illness and make James sick with worry for once. Can their lies save their marriage? Or is their once great love match doomed forever?
Martha Waters regency rom com world has quickly become one of my favorites to visit. Violet and James and their respective friends (most of whom appear again in To Love and to Loathe) are funny, smart, and well rounded characters, and while lying doesn’t seem like the greatest way to save a relationship, the increasingly comedic antics they must resort to keep the lie afloat are great fun. Violet and James have outstanding chemistry and the bedroom scenes feel like extensions of their relationship and integral to the plot. I can’t wait to see where this group of friends go next!
