It has a fun premise, but then it got really cheesy (or perhaps I didn’t notice the cheese in the beginning), and the pacing was all wrong.

When the love triangle finally came to fruition is when I decided I had to bail.

DNF about 2/3 of the way through. Would have liked to finish it, because I had been enjoying it up to that point. But… I just couldn’t make myself finish.

My Review

This is my first venture into Sci-Fi genre and I will admit I was a little skeptical as to what I was getting myself into; well color me surprised. This book was amazing.
The reason it fell short of being perfect is because of all the informaotion that was dumped on me in the first book. While this book doesn’t suffer from First Book Syndrome it was a lot of info to take in.

Kitty is a kick-ass heroine and the first time that we meet her she is willing to risk her life for a stranger by staring danger in the face. She is immediately tossed in a world that she never knew existed. Secrets are revealed as we are about to witness a battle between “good” and “evil”
What made this a great read for me was the introduction of Jeff. He adds the perfect balance of comedic genius into this story. His witty comebacks and his sexyness as well the danger that seems to pour off of his body. The additional characters are the perfect balance in this story. Kitty’s parent’s bring this story to life because who wouldn’t want kick-ass parents.
The world building was fantastic and the twist and turns in this story was great. I didn’t see them coming and when everything was wrapped up beautifully.
Ms. Koch did a fantastic job of adding the romantic aspect into this story. The scenes we hot and I was fanning myself through most of them. I am excited to see where this story will continue and how the new discoveries will play out.

The prose is decent. The main character is very much a Mary Sue. The thing that ruins the book for me is the repeated, totally unrealistic "solutions" that come up to each problem.

SpoilerHow to get a couple of characters out of a battle? They're picked up by cables suspended from fighter jets. Then proceed to fly around the battle in the laps of the fighter pilots. Oh, and it turns out that fighter jets have two headsets in the single-seat cockpit.

A giant snake monster is "charmed to sleep" by blasting easy-listening music from car stereos.

Kitty's mother (who is secretly the only non-Israeli, non-Jewish, female Mossad agent ever) hands her a pistol. Never having used a gun before, she takes a couple shots to hit. A few minutes later she is changing magazines blind and is a crack shot. A few minutes after that, she shoots while hanging upside down by her legs from a cable, suspended from a hovering military jet, and she hits a smaller than man-sized target.

What a ridiculously fun book! So very many people have spoken about the Kitty series and I’ve really waited too long to find out what all the fuss was about. The quips and commentary throughout this book will leave you highly amused! Every single character is witty and snarky, and you must know by now that I lurves me some snark! The series starts out with Kitty leaving the courthouse and witnessing a grisly transformation of a human into…something, who wrecks havoc on the surrounding area. Instead of cowering and running for cover, Kitty tries out her skills with a Montblanc pen and destroys the sucker. On the scene in an instant are agents Martini, White and Gower of planet Alpha Centauri. And thus, Kitty finds herself smack in the middle of alien business in a big way.

Kitty is a smart cookie and not some damsel in distress type. She is a fine heroine who turns from marketing manager to alien special-ops overnight without a blink of any eye. You won’t find her without a can of hairspray in one hand (you have to read the book to figure that one out) and her iPod in the other. She loves Aerosmith and can’t function without music in the midst of a fight. And yes, she does kick some alien bootay.

All of this is why Jeff Martini, Alien Extraordinaire, adores her from the get-go. She takes the alien business with a grain of salt, and Martini asks her to marry him immediately. Normally this would annoy me, but the tone of this book was lighthearted and while Martini was quite serious, the delivery worked and made me smile. It’s part of his endearing personality. He’s drop dead gorgeous (as all the A-C’s are) and won’t take no for an answer. Martini will have you panting, laughing and sniffling as he serves up great sex (he has some serious skills between the sheets), lays down some fantastic one-liners and struggles with his intense feelings for Kitty. Oh, and he’s an Empath, the strongest alive. Great freaking power to possess, but with it comes serious consequences.

I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. This book will have you laugh out loud on many occasion, drool on your nice shirt from the smexy aliens, and route for the home team! Gini’s writing is infectious and I really enjoyed the flow of the story, the characterization and the plot. There are also some pretty tender moments in the book between characters, as well as intrapersonal moments. This is my first Sci-Fi Romance but I‘m a major fan girl now. I’m sad that I don’t yet have the other books. My Martini fix will be had. :)

Gloriously fun, sexy science fiction romance novel. I ordered the rest of the series after I finished this one.

By far, action-adventure/romance/sci-fi/with a sense of humor is my favorite type of escapist fiction. And this book had all of that in spades. From the first couple of pages, I knew this was going to be a good ride, and it was! I almost didn't want it to end, because I was having so much fun. But there are like, 15 books in this series, so I will have plenty to continue with. At first, I was worried they were going to have an unnecessary love triangle, but I think they have that all sorted out.

In the first couple of pages, Katherine (Kitty, and no, I'm not kidding) Katt helps advert an alien-monster attack and is swept away into an organization that is dedicated to doing what she just did, saving the world from monster aliens. Along the way, she uncovers things about her mother and father, helps saves the world, and falls in love. All in all, not bad for a week's worth of work. The snark in this book is just incredible. I mean, not that anyone in reality would be able to keep their wits about them when they face what Kitty and her new team faces, but I appreciated the witty banter when it is all going to hell. There are a couple of steamy love scenes, so, if that stuff bothers you, just be aware.

Loved reading this book again, it was so great to go back to the beginning! I'd forgotten so much, and things have changed so much for the characters! Such a great book!

This book was so fantastic! Kitty was so smart, and figuring things out! I loved this world, and I can't wait to see more of it!

DID NOT FINISH

I made it to 78% and just couldn't handle it anymore. I've been forcing myself to keep going for too long anyway. Overcomplicated, too much insta-love, and zero chemistry whatsoever. I give up.
