While I enjoyed this read, my number one question is whether this book is meant to be about an underdog boss or an underdog assistant? We're told Imogen Tate is the EIC of Glossy and we're shown her name gets respect. But, she behaves like an assistant at times with Eve. It doesn't match up even for a woman we're told is coming back from medical leave to a new world. She doesn't have to take it from Eve and I'm skeptical that any woman in her position would have. Still an enjoyable read.

Unterhaltsame Story voller Intrigen, Follower und Erfahrung. Das Ganze hat was von "Der Teufel trägt Prada", nur andersrum.
Wenn ich groß bin, will ich so sein wie Imogen. Die ist sympathisch, lustig und liebenswert. Ist erfolgreich aber bodenständig, bringt Karriere und Familie zusammen und gibt nicht auf. Vollkommen überfordert mit Technologie und Digitalisierung, lässt sich aber darauf ein, entwickelt sich konstant und lernt dazu.
Eve dagegen ist der digitale Albtraum. Unangenehm, hinterhältig, falsch und egozentrisch. Mit ihrer narzisstischen Art ist sie so überheblich und denkt sie wüsste sowieso alles besser, so dass sie es nicht nötig hat von den Erfahrenen zu lernen. Die erfüllt wirklich jedes Mode-Mädchen-Klischee.
Imogen ist Chefredakteurin bei Glossy. Als sie nach ihrem "Sabbatical", das in Wahrheit lange Krebsbehandlungen waren, zurück ist, erkennt sie ihr Magazin aber nicht wieder. Alles ist anders, alles ist online und ihre Assistentin Eve hat die Führung übernommen.
Klar ist es unglaubwürdig, dass die erfolgreiche Chefredakteurin, mit Anfang 40, die mitten in Manhattan wohnt, deren Mann Anwalt ist und deren Teenie-Tochter bloggt, so absolut keine Ahnung vom Internet hat. Vieles ist übertrieben und das Ende ist auch so in der Art abzusehen.
Klar Social Media hat die Welt, und vor allem die Art der Interaktion, verändert, ist aber nicht automatisch schlecht. Aber gerade die überzogene Darstellung macht es so unterhaltsam.
Und auch die Darstellungen der Modeszene, sind entweder so nah dran oder so überzogen, dass es trotzdem immer lustig ist.

The premise didn't make sense. It takes place in 2015, and the 40-year-old character didn't understand how to read email or use the internet in general? Her entire company's direction changed direction in 6 months without her knowledge when she was the editor-in-chief?
I also could not stand the characters. This book essentially shoves generational stereotypes at you repeatedly. It's ridiculous. I've never met an actual person like any of these characters, and they just feel like an entire cast of caricatures. This novel is entirely too long to have such flat characters.
I didn't find this book good in any way. After reading half, I skipped ahead to the last chapter to see if there was anything redeeming. Woo. They got revenge against Eve. That's hard to get excited about when all the characters suck.

Delivered on the cover's promise of a fluffy summer read, and held my interest despite being predictable; however, all of the characters are extremely flat, particularly Eve, who is cartoonishly evil... she just needs a Snidely Whiplash mustache. Crammed full of stereotypes and name-dropping (that will probably soon be outdated).

Well written, and a funny send-up of some tech office culture. A bit too one-dimensional though - then main character does no wrong, and the antagonist is straight up evil, no nuance.
