Deception Point

Dan Brown

Interesting story line but as always, if you've read one Dan Brown book you've basically read them all. The only difference between them is the content, he does some terrific and intense research on the topics which is definitely a plus but his basic storyline gets a little old.

Compared to the other works of Dan brown, I would say that this novel is simpler and less complicated, the characters are plain except one of them. On the other hand, it has this feature of promoting some great general knowledge, for instance about NASA and NRO.
Dan brown is my favorite American contemporary author so far.

I realized a few pages into this that I had read it before. I only remembered one of the main plot points and since I just finished Digital Fortress and enjoyed it, I figured I would give this another try. It's hard to review Deception Point since my overall opinion is that the surprises and revelations in this book weren't that surprising, and I've already read it before. Chapters didn't end in cliffhangers, there were an adundance of characters, many of which didn't need their own separate viewpoints, and the plot is one dimensional. It's enjoyable, and I didn't have any problem finishing it, but I wanted there to be more. More twists, more plot depth, maybe another side plot, something. Instead it's a bunch of gross politicians and corrupt officials going around being unpleasant, and what is shocking or thrilling about that?

This was the final book I read for 2019 and was certainly an action packed one. It's very clearly an early work of Dan Brown's and the main character is pretty much Robert Langdon as a woman. The book really roped me in when I started it and as usual Dan Brown keeps me wondering who is really behind it all. I enjoyed the book but it was unbelievable to me and that's why it gets three stars. Yes it's fiction but it seemed like everything happened to go a little too perfectly for the main character and her team as they were constantly being rescued or in the throws of battle. The side story of an election year in addition to her sleazy father just seemed distracting and a little over the top. Overall, there's plenty of people who bash on Dan Brown but I thoroughly enjoy reading his books even if they can be a bit ostentatious and predictable. I definitely recommend this book as someone's next adventure.

Enjoyed this book! Easy to read and entertaining.

Excellent, but not as good as some of his other books

I sort of feel like reading a Dan Brown book if profoundly uncool. In fact my husband assures me that it is. But I read it. I enjoyed it, mostly, and found it entertaining. The trick is to just not think to hard while you're swimming through it and just go with the flow.

Ok read. Not as good as DaVinci Code.

This is the Dan Brown book that caught me off guard. I was captivated in the first chapter and lost sleep for the next day to complete it.

With a more interesting idea at the heart of it than some of the other ideas that Brown has decided to run with, Deception Point is a very entertaining thriller that feels as if it could have easily been tweaked and adapted into an X-Files movie. I say that as a hearty recommendation.
