Incredible stories and love the sense of community in such an isolated place.

An emotional tour de force. Makes this cold-sensitive Chicagoan dream of a life in the great White North.

Enjoyed listening to this. I have a special love for Blair Braverman and her particular oddness.

I finally picked this up since it had been recommended to me by numerous groups and algorithms. I feel like I either missed something or just didn't get it. It didn't seem like the author grew as a person (as many reviews suggest) and there isn't much time spent on describing harrowing artic conditions. in fact, much of the story seems to be set in summer and focuses on external characters. It didn't feel like there was any kind of conclusion to the overall story, or story lines. This would really be better served as a day in the life of rural norther Norway.
I love this book! It’s not really about dog mushing though. It’s more a biography about Blair’s life growing up and her experiences in Norway and Alaska.
The part about her host father “Far” really disturbed me. And the parts about how she was treated in Alaska, and her first boyfriend “Dan”.
I wonder if it would be more helpful for the reader though, if there was more closure/reflection on these experiences since they have impacted her greatly. But of course I am sure she is still processing them as a young adult.
Personally, I think the book is quite well-written. It really gave me a great clear perspective on her experiences without specifically harping on feminism, or being tough, or showing how hip she is doing all these non-traditional things.
