3.5 stars. It took me a long time to read this book. It was an enjoyable read, and I remembered the story line, but I did not feel compelled to continue reading. So, I'm kind of perplexed as to why I think it was a good read, but definitely not great, or at least not compelling. I liked Daphne, but did not like Heath, and did not really understand why she was willing to go through everything for him.

Hmmm well this was an interesting novel. Just when I would think I knew what direction it was going in, it proved me wrong and went in a different one.

A few “as if” moments but overall a good read. Lots of suspense and twists.

An eerie read, but I guessed most of the twists before the halfway point.

This is my first Emily Carpenter book and I was drawn to the very pretty cover on Kindle Unlimited. Reading the synopsis, I was very intrigued so I got it. I had no idea what to expect on getting it except that I was getting a genre I had barely touched in the past.

Every Single Secret is an intense, and suspenseful psychological thriller that kept me intrigued from beginning to end. I never wanted to put it down after I started reading and the only reason I did was real life/work stuff. It was definitely a page turner, I wanted to know more.

It tells the story of Daphnee and her fiancee Heath. They have a perfect union but both have a dark past and they have an understanding to not ask about their past, not ask questions. They are happy, everything works very well between them. Until Heath starts having nightmare and his behavior changes enough to make Daphnee worry. One day, heath suggests a 7 days couple retreat so he can work on his issues as well as Daphnee, if she wants to join in. She's cold to the idea but follows him to the retreat and refuses the help. The retreat is located in a secluded space and the rules are strict: no electronic devices, can't use your car, can't talk to the other couples. And there's a camera in the room in order to help the treatment. Slowly, secrets are being revealed. Maybe more so then you can think and want.

The way Emily wrote this book is very well done, in first person so you follow Daphnee's story to the end and the different jumps in the timeline are easy to follow. She created a creepy atmospheric environment for the setting of this book and I was questioning everything. I could easily picture myself following Daphnee's every movements around the area as if I was right there with her. You can tell Emily did research for what she was talking about because, without going in full details on the therapy sessions, she was able to explain behavioral moods and actions as if she was an expert in it.

This is pretty much my favorite book of January 2020 and this is saying a lot since I've read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks as well and its movie adaptations is one of my favorite movies of all time!!

I will definitely be looking forward to Ms. Carpenter's other books!!

Well done

Well done for the genre, psychological thriller, which I'm coming to learn is not my favorite. This character is less annoyingly neurotic than most in the genre and has a personal growth arc that is more convincing.

4.5 Stars!

Holy, this was twisted! Every Single Secret was my first novel by Emily Carpenter, and I can’t wait to read her previous two!

Daphne and Heath are a very private couple; so private, that they have made a pact to not to reveal anything about their pasts to one another. In time, Heath reconsiders this pact and suggests to Daphne they undergo couples counselling at a week long retreat. When they arrive, it’s clear to Daphne that something is very off about the institution, and this intuition will lead her to discover secrets she’ll wish were never revealed.

I devoured this book and had such a hard time putting it down! I absolutely love thrillers that involve characters being isolated and trapped; the desperation of their situation makes the story much more gripping to me. This was a solid 5 star read for me up until the very ending, as I found the ending to feel somewhat rushed and wrapped up too tidily. Overall though I LOVED this book and would highly recommend!

I burned through this gripping, atmospheric psychological thriller in a day because I just HAD to know what was going to happen. EVERY SINGLE SECRET tells a tense, twisty Southern gothic tale that has all of my favorite elements: an old, creepy house; an isolated mountain setting; and a chilling vibe that tells you that things are not what they seem. While the plot definitely drifts into depressing/disturbing territory, overall EVERY SINGLE SECRET is a satisfying page turner that I almost literally could not put down.
