This book gave a lot of insight into Elvis and his thought process. Interesting perspective.

I read this decades ago - I'm going to guess in the late eighties, or whenever it came out in paperback. I always liked Elvis movies, and then in the fall of '82 I happened to be driving through Memphis and saw a billboard advertising Graceland. I guess it's a bigger tourist destination now, but back then there was just a little trailer across the street from his home, selling a few trinkets. It was cool touring through his shag-carpeted Brady Bunch style home.

So then I read the book. I had this vague knowledge that when Elvis married Priscilla she was his child bride. It was great learning all the details. Really interesting story.

Idk how to rate this. You can tell Pricilla was trying to do Elvis kindness by the way this was written, but even with all the excuses and dodging he still came off horribly.

The age she was when they dated, and the manipulation of her broke my heart. The way she laughed during stories that were making me cry made me wonder if she even knew how wrong the way she was treated was.

She did her best to portray him well, but honestly I think she ended up leaving the relationship when she was old enough to be an emotional equal. There’s a reason he needed someone he could control.

The way she painted his spiral made his death make a lot more sense also.

Okay this was more like 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book and it was an easy read for sure. I don’t normally read memoirs so this was a nice change. I struggle though with just taking her word as truth. Obviously she could be telling us anything and we just have to believe it because there isn’t anyone to contradict her. It was annoying how full of herself she was as a MIDDLE SCHOOLER talking about how beautiful she was. Obviously the relationship was toxic she was 14 and he was much older when they met. But it was still interesting to see this side of Elvis’s life. Overall it was a good read, but after seeing how she treated her own granddaughter with the trial over Graceland I have a hard time thinking she’s this great person that she portrays herself as.

this book was an easy read that i honestly enjoyed, it covers many heavy topics even if priscilla doesn’t always go into great details or admit that these situations were traumatic. one thing i hate the most about reading the reviews here is the amount of people attacking priscilla, if you can read this book and think that she is the bad guy then you’re honestly a sick person

Reading this after watching the movie Elvis by Baz Lurhman, which I loved.
I've never really been a fan of Elvis, I love some of his songs and that's about it but I was curious about the accuracy of the movie.
The book gives us interesting insight to his life, and I applaud Priscilla's strength of character, especially when she decided to leave him.

Her writing and her reading of the audiobook is incredible. I wonder if she still feels the same now. She seems like such a lovely, kind woman, I hope she is in loving, supportive relationships with her friends and family now.

Great book but unfortunately feels like it drags on for me. Maybe I’ll try reread it another time?

I was scrolling through the autobiographies at the library, and this one popped up and I was intrigued. I know they got married, and had a daughter in Lisa Marie. I also have a book on my wishlist co-written by Lisa Marie and her daughter, Riley Keough. Riley had to finish it after Lisa Marie passed away.

Back to Elvis and Priscilla…

Priscilla met him when she was 14 years and living in Germany as Elvis was stationed there. It must’ve been weird to meet him at that age, but she did and he liked her from the start.

I enjoyed all the stories she told about them as nothing was off limits for Priscilla. She talked about his affairs, his drug use, his temper, his closeness to his family and friends, and his passions. She also wrote about her divorce from the King and his death.
