A cute manga that's great for passing time. It's really sweet to see the son's personal relationships and interests growing.
It can be a bit frustrating because it's repetitive and doesn't feel entirely true to life. I have to believe that any teenager who's THIS far in the closet would be a bit better at avoiding making the same Freudian slips about his sexuality again and again.
Also, while I understand that the mom wants to let her son come out when he's ready, I do think that showing a bit more explicit support for him would go a long way in making him feel better. Cultural differences, I guess?
Hoping that volume 2 will get things moving more!

This is a very warm and comforting manga read about a mother who realizes that her son is gay and she tries to subtly help him realize that she will support him if/when he decides to come out to her and the rest of the family. I thought the relationship between Hiroki and his mom was so sweet and I really liked how the author gave us some perspective into how both he and his mom reacted in different situations. I can't wait to read more books in this series and hope I'll be able to find the 2nd volume soon.

I haven’t seen any fiction books that depict an outside perspective of realizing someone is gay so that was very interesting and I feel it was done well. I relate to a lot of what Hiroki was thinking/doing so that was cool to see, and I just love how supportive and great his mom is, she’s just the sweetest and she just loves her son. Overall this was just a very cute book.

This one was difficult for me to settle on an opinion of. It's sweet having the perspective of this mother, who loves and accepts her son, watching as he struggles with his own sexuality. And for the culture it comes from, maybe it reads as a lot more loving and accepting than it did to me, a queer adult American.
I guess what holds me back from liking it more is just seeing how obvious it is that the son already knows he's gay, but the mother does little more than I'd consider the bare minimum to support him. She doesn't tell him it would be alright if he was gay, lets him freak out at every slip of the tongue, and barely pushes back against the homophobia of the father. It's good to let your kid come out to you in their own time, but this just felt like a bit much to me.
That said, we have a bad habit of holding queer media to ridiculous standards of perfection and I am not trying to do that now. I am certain this will be a heartwarming and emotional read for some people, and I hope it can help more parents be supporting of their queer children. Worth a read, just keep in mind it may be coming from a culture much more conservative about LGBT issues than yours and adjust expectations accordingly.

Since we're in the mother's perspective and she's pretty accepting, the father's unthinking and joking comment about two guys together being "gross" feels sharper than it might've otherwise. The father obviously loves his kids though, so I fully expect him to be okay if/when the son comes out.
