I enjoyed reading this book. I think this was able to capture so many different emotions so well. I also think that the characterization was good and the writing was very beautiful. I was able to picture the scenes very clearly, all the while feeling the same thoughts and emotions that the characters were experiencing.
This story is primarily about moving on after loss. I think this is conveyed well, but I found some of the constant reminders a bit grating and repetitive at times. I also thought the characterization of Frankie seemed wobbly, but that may have been the point.
I would have liked more closure at the end, as a reader, but I know that the ending was fitting to how things happen in real life.

What can I say? This book drowned my heart in numbers I couldn't count. It's so full of emotions and depth and honesty that I felt the characters' pain and sorrow throughout. I literally cried with them.
I picked up this book thinking it's not that heavy since it's YA. It sure proved me wrong. I closed the book with a feeling of nostalgia. It's like I personally lost Matt too.
Anyway, I love the California adventure. I love Sam. He's so open-minded and he's a great listener... I love how a shattered family got their pieces together, and though they'll always be broken, at least, the pieces still fit. I love how they all learned to let go and accept reality. Most importantly, I love how they all learned to move on.
Matt was a big loss. Even as a reader, I felt how much of a loss he is. He's such a great person/son/brother/bestfriend/boyfriend. He's so mature and pure in heart. He is giving, kind and passionate. I like how he leaves the pennies on the street just so somebody else can have good luck instead of himself. He's a great soul. I hope he had a longer life just so he could spare this world of one honest and true soul. He's the kind of guy you wanna spend the rest of your life with.
I love how Anna and Frankie settled their misunderstandings by the end of the book. I love how it ended with Anna receiving a final gift from Matt through a necklace. It's a great way to end. I just wish I had a clue of what could have been Sam and Anna's future. I really like them together.
All in all, it was a great, heart-whelming read.

This book perfectly portrays grief and what it truly means to lose someone. I was crying within the first fifty pages. This book also displays what defines us and how e can move on when something so tragic and devastating has happened.
One of the things I loved most about this book was the writing and descriptions. I felt like I was really there with Anna, experiencing her grief. I really understood why Frankie was acting so awful most of the time. There were some lines that were just so poetic, gorgeous, and beautiful.
The only thing that I did not like about this book was that it seemed like Anna totally forgot about Matt once she started hanging out with Sam all the time.
Overall, this was a phenomenal book. It may be one of the best contemporaries I have ever read.

Reminded me a lot of "Summer I Turned Pretty" by Jenny Tan. Story of friendship and of first loves. I thought the entire relationship between Anna and Frankie was sad, period, and I didn't think there was much of a friendship. Seeing the fall out was a little heartbreaking since I liked Anna, but I thought it was a great wake up call for the fact they really didn't know each other as well as they thought.
A story of love, loss, and friendship. The way it's told, everything has an almost ethereal quality to it, which is an ease to read. Ultimately enjoyable, but not something that I'm going to remember for very long. There were a few annoying parts - Frankie's constant misuse of words, and then Anna's correction of them seemed somewhat pointless. The ending revelations also seemed a bit rushed. Nonetheless, it was a nice, sweet story.
The Matt thing broke my heart (NO PUN INTENDED BECAUSE IM SAD) but I got annoyed at the lack of development of Sam like hmmmmm I barely knew him he said like 3 sentences but in the end it was all about Frankie and Anna soo... ALSO I FUCKING GASPED WHEN SHE THREW THE JOURNAL IN THE OCEAN LIKE WTF HOW COULD YOU DO THAT! Nah son I don't know if i could forgive that but then the necklace akdjshdishajshksrk
OMG I loved this book!! It gave me the feels. This is an amazing romance story with two girls who are both scarred by the death of someone they loved. They react very differently to his death. Anna grew up with Frankie, aka Francesca, and her brother Matt. A month before Matt's death Anna and Matt finally realize that they love each other, telling themselves they will tell Frankie when Matt and his family go to California for a vacation. But when Matt dies Anna never tells her. This is a heart-warming story that I thought was a beautiful debut.
I pretty much inhaled this book ... it’s not really what I expected but I ended up really liking it and want more books by this author .
