This book was so painfully slow and boring. The main plot point was never even sort of resolved and felt like an afterthought. The plot twist reveals were pretty obvious from the start. It almost felt AI generated in places. I may have liked it more in middle school, I will say the depictions of grief were pretty on point.
Disappointing to say the least. The conclusion didn't resolve anything for me. It left Abbey's story in limbo, and not in a cliff-hanger-leaves-you-begging-for-more way either.
The dialogue felt very cardboard and unrealistic. The transitions were noticeably rough as well, moving between suspenseful scenes with Caspian and the monotony of Abbey's day-to-day life: eating, dressing, sleeping, rinse and repeat, etc.
I picked up a copy of the second book in the series, The Haunted, when I first bought The Hollow. And now, after reading The Hollow, I'm fairly certain I'll be returning The Haunted to the library unread.

While reading this book, I thought it was quite slow and pointless. But looking back, I realise I did kinda enjoy it. Half the book is about Abbey's depression over everything and her ordinary day to day life. But the end was amazing and sooo unexpected.
Caspian was more than mysterious: he was boring.
All in all, a good book. Try it and see what you think.

I really liked this book. Smooth, flowing story and excellent Sleepy Hollow and Washington Irving references, all wrapped up neatly with a ribbon of mystery. Verday proves with this novel that she understands the art of storytelling.
So this review is a while after reading the book so I won't change my rating. I really did love this book but spoilers of later books are just kind of gross and I won't be reading more.
This book did some things really well when it came to grief so I will give it that. It's just a shame it's not a standalone book.

I completely when on a different direction on this book I was more intrigue by the mystery boyfriend “D” than the rest of the plot …I had really big expectations about this book. The story is very interesting and has really good characters and it could have been a better. They were chapters when I just wanted to skip and keep reading. For me it was just too long…
This book started out okay. Then got really boring and it seemed as if there was no plot. I was contemplating stopping it but decided to finish it. Then the ending smacked me in the face with a twist. I was bored to the point of not guessing anything and then for it to change, I’m left a little lost. I see no reason to continue and also have no idea why Kristen was included. She wasn’t really a key character and had nothing to do with the book or the ending. It felt as if this book was a heaping mess of ideas thrown together. But it was somewhat interesting!
