I think my previous reviews capture the vibe. This series starts male-heavy and becomes female-heavy by the end. Though I would argue the story told the books is about a land and the people who inhabit it, and not necessarily about the characters through which the author tells the story. That said, the characters come across as very dynamic and unique.

The author likes to jump to big scenes, then backfill how the tools of the scene came to be. We also spedrun through a few bureaucratic issues. I’m not giving this one 5 stars because we have had so many fantastical, myth-worthy solutions in the series and have had some characters make assumptions that really felt out of character. These didn’t happen more in this book; I just started tiring of them.

I still really enjoyed it because of the intimacy with the world that felt rooted deeply in its past with an eye toward the future. The author concludes the series well by giving the reader a resolution while retaining the complexity of the world and people.

A beautiful end to an amazing story. Suffered a little from bloat and some weird side character info dumps, but the final breaths of the story took mine right away.

words still can't describe how much I love Dara, this hit me less hard than the first time but that may also have to do with only waiting a few months to re read it as opposed to the other three books which all at least have a year since I last read them fantastic the best fantasy series I have ever read

What a journey. This definitely picks up pace after The Veiled Throne although some parts still felt incredibly slow and it felt a little like I was reading a history text book at times.

There's no denying what an incredible writer Ken Liu is though. Everything has a reason for being there and I become so immersed in the story I would forget i am even reading. So many times I felt the story was going one way only to be took on a complete left turn I didnt see coming. The characters are all so incredibly well fleshed out and interesting. I had my favourites but even the characters I didnt like I found so fascinating and complex.

I have adored reading this series and each book has made me love it more and more. I am so sad its all over but very satisfied with the ending. I may have had a little tear in the eye, and was definitely not ready to leave this world but this is the sign of a great book!

Thank you Ken Liu for this masterclass of a series, it is one I wont forget.
