How to Talk to Your Cat About Gun Safety: and Abstinence, Drugs, Satanism, and Other Dangers that Threaten their Nine Lives by Zachary Auburn I read awhile back, but I finally sent it to its new home.

This book had me laughing OUT LOUD for real while I was reading it. Coworkers who saw the title thought it was hilarious (even though I don't think they would so much if they were reading it).

It's a satire piece writing from a "right-wing" perspective about protecting our precious kitties from the radical ideals of meowlennials and other degenerates trying to pawsitively corrupt. The cat puns were everywhere, the pictures were adorable and hilarious, and I'm so happy my Thriftbooks ads on Facebook advertised this book to me.

Early in only the second chapter, the joke of the whole book seemed to devolve into repetition. Flipping though later parts of the book, I can see that the same kinds of jokes (?) are reused with each different topic. That doesn't make me want to continue reading it through.

The ultra-conservative tone of the narrator becomes exhausting quickly. Because there really are lots of people in America today who speak like that, it actually takes away from the funny absurdity of the premise and the humor fades.

Read a sample and you will have read the whole book.

Enlightening.

Inspiring.

Terrifying.

Purrtinent.

It's not nearly as funny as it's trying to be. I can't figure if the heavy right wing slant to the writing is because that's the author's bent or if they're just trying to mock what they think a gun-wielding, bible-toting super conservative would sound like. In any case, barely worth the effort of finishing.

Title made me laugh out loud. It started hopeful but it really wasn't that funny after a few pages. It seemed too real and not absurd enough. Left me disappointed. Sad part is that there are people out here in the world that would agree with the sentiments...minus the cats and replace with children. *cue flashbacks of ultra-conservative education* Thinking my life experience has jaded me not to like this book. I'm really curious the author's intention and motivation.

Satire is hard. The title is self-explanatory, and you will probably enjoy the book as much as its name piques your interest. The cat pictures were cute, but the jokes felt obvious.
