Cute, sweet, and light. It’s very predictable, but in no way did that take away from the enjoyability of the book and the endearing relationships between these characters.

this was so perfect. I think I found a new fave.

Wasnt bad but wasnt my favorite.

Cruise read. Borrowed from the ship library.

Somehow I missed the part where this one was about what happens when a kid who was kidnapped by his father ten years ago, finally comes home, instead of just a straight forward teen romance. Still the parent abduction and the fallout from that as well as the blossoming romance between Oliver and Emmy was done well. The last flashback to their first meeting in the hospital nursery was a little unnecessary, but on the whole, I highly recommend it.

Buchwelt gerettet durch:

+ Freundschaft.

3.5!
One of the easier reads. Quick and doesn’t require much pondering. Like one of the popular reviews have stated, would’ve appreciated more if there was Oliver’s POV bc I honestly can’t fathom how he felt about his whole situation besides the snippets we get when he shares his summary and feelings with Emmy. I believe there’s so much more than what were presented here.

Also raises questions like possible trauma and others for both of them (and those who were close to them), having a best friend kidnapped at a young age and suddenly return. I wanted to know so much abt Oliver’s time away, bc it’s his story too. Then there’s Emmy’s parents (esp her mom) who got so overprotective bc of it and put a lot of pressure on Emmy (which I can understand bc I do get that they want her safe) but Emmy herself was absolutely ok with it, as in I didn’t get the feeling she suffered from any mental health problems as I’d assume those with “helicopter parents” would have. I’d also assume the extent of the parenting isn’t that intense as compared to what can go on irl. Ofc she gets annoyed with her parents abt homework or hanging out with friends, overthinking when it comes to Oliver as her crush develops, etc, but these are normal teenage stuff. She doesn’t go deeper than that. Emmy does surfing to help ease her mind and it’s where she feels free and more of herself, so that could help? And she’s written as someone who’s carefree (as her mom says, she’s always been “rolling with the punches” even after the incident). But I’m uneducated in this topic so I could be way off.

And this being a YA book foremost means that such content aren’t usually delved into, it’s more of the typical high school romance/friendships/drama. The friendships I adore. Emmy is really cute and so are Caro and Drew. I’m glad for Oliver to have such friends and the romance between him and Emmy was natural, for me at least. Definitely a good, light-hearted break esp after my previous read.

Not so related but at one part they talked abt point break and I was planning to watch detective pikachu but I took that as a sign and watched John wick 3 instead lool. All I can say abt that is it was a wild and fun ride if u don’t mind very graphic violence, intense fight choreo and a whole lot of blood. Also this is the 2nd YA book I’ve read this year mentioning Keanu Reeves. Ugh his 90s-early 00s impact.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Now I am one to brag on a good book but holy crap it's beyond amazing. It's got a great plot with lots of small turns as it all reveals. It also left me with a good feeling instead of a sinking depressed mood like a normally have after reading books like this. Really good. One of my favorite books. 10/10 would read again.

I read this book for my libraries Young Adult books for Adults book club.

A super sweet coming of age story. It was nice to see a YA novel that didn't have the two main characters mad it each other over something stupid. They stuck together throughout the whole book.

The day Oliver was kidnapped by his father changed things in the lives of all those close to him. He was seven years old. His best friend Emmy will think about Oliver everyday for ten years until he's found and brought home. Emmy has dreamed of this moment for years, but now that Oliver is home, everyone questions just where this "new" Oliver fits because he is no longer a seven year old boy, but at seventeen he's on his way to becoming a man.

Oliver himself is thrust into a seemingly new life, one where his mother remarried and he now has two half sisters. One of the constants has been Emmy. Even though both are essentially different, they both still click together. But can the serious issues that Oliver is still facing keep them together or will it break them apart?

Since Oliver has been gone, Emmy herself, while still thinking about him, had to continue on with her life. She's made plans. What if those plans don't include Oliver. As the two grow close again, will Emmy still be able to be there for her friend, yet still retain the person that she became in his absence?

These types of stories always draw me in. Two people who are destined to be together fighting to get to the point where they used to be in order to get to the point where they should be. It's a little toned down being that it's a YA book, but the idea is the same.

Emmy was a great character. She's been through a lot in the ten years since Oliver's disappearance. Her family was extremely close with Oliver's and they saw first hand the devastation his kidnapping caused so in turn they start to over-protect Emmy. Emmy begins little rebellions, but she's still a good person.

It's not hard to guess some of the emotional roller coaster that this book will take you through, but Robin Benway does a great job of not overwhelming the story with too much moroseness. Yes, there's heartbreak and sadness, but everyone is aiming towards a hopeful goal. Aiming to get back to normal and move forward.

I thought it was a beautiful story. I was rooting for Emmy and Oliver throughout the whole thing.
