3/5 stars! DNF
I really loved Nora Robert’s ‘Divine Evil’ it was exactly what I wanted to read at the time. Great characters, writing, plot and tropes.
‘The Obsession’ seemed another good book by Nora Robert’s that seemed similar and right up my alley. This book starts off so strong with Naomi recounting the moments she found out her father was a serial killer. Her finding one of his victims alive in a shed of horrors. Her having to live with what she had seen and the after effects, a tragedy, trying to escape her past and so much more. But ever since she got to her current moment in time in 2016 it all went down hill for me.
It became so boring. Iv lost the point of the story, where is the obsession? Where is this person in the blurb and the title that is supposed to be obsessed with her? I got to nearly 250 pages and haven’t even heard a pep. For nearly 200 pages we got Naomi in a new town meeting boring people in a boring town.
The main love interest, Xander who is in you guessed it…a local rock band (avoid and red flags a plenty but that’s just my personal thoughts!) I didn’t like at all. We got his internal mologue of calling Noami a ‘leggy’ blonde and wandering around her house and his first thought is ‘who is she having sex with in this house?’ Like okay…I just didn’t connect with him. I found him to be really creepy.
I found the only reason I was reading was because I found the first part of the book so intruding. But when I started to fall asleep and I was nearly half way through I knew I just didn’t care anymore and this book just wasn’t for me.

Naomi Carson is trying to move on. Or perhaps, running from the past. After discovering her father extremely dark secrets at a very young age, Naomi has spent most of her life moving from place to place. That is until she finds a house in a quiet small town. The house need some updating and care and Naomi cannot resist.
Enter Xander. The local mechanic, amongst other things. He has spent his whole life in the same place but knows what he likes and Naomi is it.
The build is slow. The book has the delightful Nora Roberts blend of romance and suspense. I loved this book. I need more like it.

Overall this book was a bit weak. Too many details in places that didn’t matter and not enough details in places that did. The story...pretty predictable, but some are and are still good stories. This would make a good movie, but the movie would turn out better than the book.
The obsession started out very good but the middle of it was so slow pased and focus a ton on the romance. I went into this novel thinking that it was going to be a thriller but the thriller was very little part of the entire story beacuse it feelt more like a romance novel. 2/3 rd of this novel just feelt out of Place for me.
The obsession by Nora Roberts get a 6.2/10 stars.

I couldn't put this book down! Well written, likable characters, easy to get into the story. I knew who the killer was pretty early on, maybe it was luck, but I was wrong on the why. I have a hard time getting into crime-thrillers but when you start any story out with a jaw dropping intense scene, well, I can easily say this one grabbed my interest early on.
[I listened to the abridged audiobook rendition of this novel].
"The excuse, not the reason."
This book was phenomenal. I felt that it had the perfect balance of romance and mystery. I don't love it when books pay too much or too little attention to the actual plot, or the mystery being solved. This book did not disappoint in this department. The romance between Xavier and Naomi is passionate, and she is not your typical "damsel in distress," and Xavier is not your traditional tough guy.
If you like the sort of "protective" MMC vibe, Xavier fits the bill, but he is not possessive. He cares about Naomi deeply, and he will do whatever it takes to make sure she's safe. But Naomi would do the same for him and her family. I appreciate this equality between the two characters.
The mystery of the book is also very good. Although I did predict the identity of a big character at the end, it didn't feel too obvious. I found very myself surprised by other developments in the plot as well.
I would definitely recommend this book!
