I read this to my 10 year old, My 10 year old, who enjoyed it immensely, even spending a solid chunk of his Saturday hearing the last several chapters all in one go since he didn't want to wait a few more nights to hear the ending read one chapter at a time. And the moment we finished this book, he went to fetch another of Hiaasen's works to be our next nightly reading.
Now, while as an adult it may not be a work I found to be terribly compelling, I do very much like how it held my son's interest, even over the course of a few weeks. Not only did he enjoy the story, but he was inspired to go learn more about some of the things we read about in the book, which is always a bonus in my book---pun intended.

Found this book in the library bin when I was in the psych hospital. It was a good read!
This is a quirky, sweet coming-of-age story about wrestling with what your brain and your heart each tell you is the right thing to do. Roy is an endearingly strong and stubborn character. But this book isn't too treacley sweet, it is also filled with the bizarre, quirky characters that are vintage Carl Hiaasen. Overall, a very fun and uplifting read.
I love Carl Haissen, especially his novels for kids! Hoot is a great story and I would recommend it to any 5th - adult that enjoys action and funny characters!

fun little read. curious to watch the movie now! love how hiaasen incorporates environmental awareness and protection into his juvenile fiction. especially considering today's political climate, it's so important to foster that in the younger generation...
When I first read it I loved it a ton, but upon a second reading it wasn't as great as I remembered :Z

You know that feeling when you go about your day and you’re just hit with a random memory of a book you read and loved over a decade ago?
Hey. It’s that feeling. Knocking at your door.

I loved this book! It is more geared toward the YA crowd but heartwarming none the less. Suggested for everyone!
