While not as good as 1Q84, it was still a fantastic read. Murakami has quickly become a favorite of mine.

I considered reading Murakami's latest novel, then read a review suggesting that it was typical Murakami, except longer and slower. Despite having read a lot of Murakami's recent novels, I realized I hadn't read his most famous works.

Kafka on the Shore is still incredibly poignant despite having come out in 2002. It is an exploration of identity, understanding, love, and loss. It is about making choices, being responsible for our actions, and doing what is required even when it's difficult.

I found this book incredibly interesting in many ways. Murakami explores many themes: rite of passage, forbidden romance, the concept of gender, omens, spirits and the signification of dreams — to name a few. I felt a bit underwhelmed by the concluding chapters, which is why I give it four stars. By the end of the novel, I felt like I knew some of these characters so intimately that their “conclusions” seem “insufficient” but that might also be the beauty of the prose as it leaves certain elements to the imagination of the reader. To each their own! Still an excellent book and very well written.

Comecei gostando muito, mas depois de certo ponto o livro me perdeu. Tenho vontade de reler futuramente

Really weird.

4.5 stars. Really weird in many ways and definitely a twisted story but it opens a new world for you, as Murakamis novels always do. The ending was just fascinating and the magical realism definitely lived up to what I had hoped for in this work. It’s something you have to be into and you need to get used to the idea of that storyline but once you do it is absolutely amazing.

What a weird book.

This is the first work by Murakami for me. It's such a bizarre story. Incredibly weird things keep happening throughout the book, all beyond any reasoning. I am afraid that I did not quite get most of the symbolisms of the surrealistic events in this book. I tried to find the possible meanings behind the metaphors, but miserably failed most of the time. And yet I could not put the book down. The story pulled me into its own world and although incomprehensible, that world was intriguing at every step. The story keeps moving between dream and reality until all the boundaries blur beyond recognition and may be that's what makes the reading experience so different.

I have no idea what happened but I enjoyed it nonetheless
