The start of a new series, Sensibly Wed is a sweet and engaging story! Kasey Stockton is a great author, and I have really enjoyed the stories of hers that I have read. I am excited for this new series, because I love family series!
Felicity is struggling through the Season, as her incurable nerves make her unable to dance and is barely able to make it through a ball. Despite her hopes after meeting someone who finally seemed to understand her, 8 months have passed without any further connection. After escaping a ballroom for a little quiet, she finds herself alone with a gentleman. Although she hopes to avoid scandal and quickly leave, fate has other plans and for both of their name’s sake, they must marry. It is not until they are officially engaged that Felicity realizes that her husband-to-be is the brother of the very man she had hoped for a future with.
Felicity was a very relatable character. She had a lot of anxiety and was thrown into a new situation where she felt overwhelmed. Her feelings seemed very real and understandable. I thought that it was admirable how she sought to grow and decided to seek a relationship with her husband. I appreciated how much she pushed herself, but also stood up for herself. She found her place and it was really lovely to see.
James was so honorable and sweet. He was such an opposite from Felicity, but was trying so hard to build a relationship with her. We also get to meet the other Bradwell brothers and get snippets of who they are. As this will be a series, it is fun to see the characters that will be in other books. This story really centers on Felicity’s journey through her marriage and new life because of it. It is a sweet story and I would definitely recommend it! I am excited to read the rest of the series too! This is a clean historical fiction romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

A sweet, slow-burn, cozy historical romance. (If Jane Austen would have written a book exploring a marriage-of-convenience trope, I'd expect it to feel very much like this.)

For those who enjoy reading about Regency England's high society--particularly those more interested in the mental and emotional chemistry of a romance (rather than gratuitous sex scenes.) Stockton's prose is both competent and pleasant. The pacing was steady yet unhurried, and tension is pretty low throughout--in terms of both external conflict and the internal turmoil for our sole POV heroine.

Felicity isn't a terribly memorable MC, being almost purely a bookworm riddled with crippling social anxiety. But thankfully she IS feisty enough with her words, and with recognizing when she needs to stand up for herself, that she's not entirely boring. She also has the benefit of being dutiful and faithful. Though she finds herself very abruptly married to the brother of a man she had hoped to court--who she honestly had far more in common with in terms of interests--she makes an immediate point of NOT entertaining any thought of him beyond brotherly affection. (Though I don't think that thought process was wholly mutual.)

Something was going on with the goddaughter of Felicity's new mother-in-law, but the conflict there was pretty peripheral. (I'd wager it's a plot thread for an entirely different but vaguely interconnected book.) So if you like family-based historical series, this one could be right up your alley.

My favorite book by Kasey Stockton so far. The plot is so fresh and original. I was immediately drawn in. James was charming and a flirt. Felicity was so relatable. Together, they brought out the best in each other, as I think marriages should. If you want a unique, clean period romance, this is the book for you!

I loved this book. I wasn't sure about the narrator at first, but she quickly grew on me.

Everything I most enjoyed about this story would be a spoiler, so I won't share specifics, but the development of the characters and how we, as the reader/listener gets to know them is perfect. This story flows so well. I would probably listen again! I am definitely looking forward to the next in the series.

Felicity hates social obligations. When she tries to escape the dancing at a ball, she’s found alone with a man. To save their reputation, James offers for her hand in marriage. When she finds herself mistress of a large home with a laundry list of social obligations, can she fulfill her duties and find her worth?

Everything I’ve read of Kasey Stockton’s work has been amazing whether it be the Scottish, regency, or contemporary romance. And this one is no exception. I loved the representation of social anxiety in this book, and how James is accepting of it. I loved how Felicity is so trusting of James, and he, in turn, cares for her and looks out for her. I loved that James insisted on fighting for their marriage and they both really tried to find a commonality between each other. I love the brothers’ dynamic. So many things to love. I can’t wait for the other brothers’ stories.

Thank you to the author for the eArc. All opinions are my own.

This is an "oops we got caught alone we have to get married" romance set-up, but it also addresses finding common ground with someone who on the surface might not have much in common with you, learning to use your voice, and learning to work with a partner to build a stronger relationship.  I really appreciated the growth from the main character and I have the sequel on my To Read list for 2024.
