Harry Dresden done graphically.

After reading this and another Dresden Files graphic novel, I have to say that the Dresden stories might almost work better (they at least work just as well) in the graphic format. I enjoyed the story, but as per usual, subtracted one star because the misogyny was anger making. The art was nothing special but mostly serviceable. Occasionally body parts would look weird from different angles - a few non-amputees looked like they were missing legs at the knees and arms at the elbows and that sort of thing, and it was a bit distracting.

Story = 4 stars
Art = 2 stars
Minues 1 star for misogyny =
2 stars
Math!

I hadn't realised there was an original Dresden Files story in comic book form, until I saw it on a friend's bookshelf. This is an excellent story - but considering it's written by Jim Butcher, that's hardly a surprise - but the comic book format lends itself to Butcher's style quite well. The characters are all drawn mostly how I would have imagined them, and the action scenes are quite spectacular as well. It may be worth me reading the other Dresden comics produced, even if they are adaptations of existing novels.

I think I like the books better than the graphic novels. Just as actors in movies never seem to match my mental pictures of the characters from reading the book, my mental pictures of the Dresden characters is very different from the pictures in the graphic novel. Just a personal thing. The story is short and the illustrations are beautiful. Just not my cup of tea.

As usual, Butcher tells a great action story with humor and excitement. As someone who's read all the other regular books before, I really liked being able to see how my mental image of the characters in the series matched up with the ones in the author's head. (It was pretty spot-on.) I'm not a huge fan of graphic novels, but this one was enjoyable.

This was my first read in the Dresden series, and serves as my introduction. The book is funny and intersting, even if a little predictable. The art was average, but accessable and definatly eerie. I cant wait to read Storm Front, which I'm starting immediatly. Although Butcher said in his introduction that he always imagined Dresden as an animated series, I feel like the depth avaiable in books will only add to a readers investment in Dresden as a character. There were hints in this book, Dresden past relationship with his foster father and whoever that girl was, which I hope is told in the books. Did I mention Butcher quotes the A-Team? Awesome!
