Love a man with wings and shadow powers!

DID NOT FINISH: 49%

Ugh, it was okay in the beginning but just started getting so boring. They’re intimate way too early for my liking (not normally something I mind) and it was just cringe

Read this after Vows & Ruin, Book 2 of The Legends of Thezmarr. It is a standalone book that gives you the backstory of Talamir, Wilder Hawthorne’s warsword master.

If you’ve read the first two books of Legends of Thezmarr, it will answer the question of where the sapphire necklace comes from, it answers details about what happened to Talamir and Malik during the battle that Wilder is always going on about, and tells you why Talamir really leaves the warsword guild.

It also gives you more backstory for Dratos, Terrence, Adrienne and Drue.

You’ll definitely want all this knowledge going into book 3 of Legends of Thezmarr.

This book has decent spice and follows Talamir’s love story and also explains why Wilder is so angry at Talamir leaving the warsword guild.

It’s going to make you hope that the arrow Thea shot at Wilder at the end of Vows & Ruin, Book 2, hits its mark because Thea has shown that she’s capable of change so WHY DIDNT WILDER JUST TELL HER EVERYTHING WE LEARNED IN THIS BOOK. Eff him, I’m way more mad at him than I was before reading this….

When the novella is just as good as the main series. I loved this backstory about Talemir and Drue and to get a glimpse of a younger Wilder. Reading this helped immensely to understand his actions in book two. Hope to see more of these characters again soon.

Love a strong woman, and love a male character that’s unabashedly in touch with romance novels *wiggles eyebrows*. I found this book a bit flat, especially since the book before it was left in a cliffhanger for me.

It’s great to have context, and I look forward to the obvious battle between good and evil, corrupted and savior. I think a theme that I took from this book was how the symbolism of eugenics and genocide could be used. Touched by darkness, not due to any of their own choices, does not warrant the slaughtering of a group. I loved being able to think that way, maybe I’ll come back and elaborate later!

I read Iron & Embers (The Ashes of Thezmarr) before realizing there was a whole other series before it. 😂 For extra context I decided to read Slaying the Shadow Prince before I start The Legends of Thezmarr series. I listened to the audiobook (which was done in dual style) and it was great! I especially love the way Islay Jacobs conveyed Drue's emotions. Stellar performance.

Drue was a badass FMC and I loved how fierce she was. She does not mess around, especially when it comes to protecting her loved ones and people. The banter between her and Tal was great and I ate up the tension between them. I would have loved more intimacy between them - not just sex, but I did like their depiction overall. I appreciated how a big part of this story is about fully accepting yourself and who you are, even the parts you don't think are that great.

I love the bonds between the characters in this book and I'm looking forward to reading Wilder and Thea's story! I'm not sure if Tal and Drue will come back but one can only hope. :') Helen Scheuerer, thank you for sharing these incredible books with us.
