It was slow moving, sometimes confusing with it's overly detailed descriptions of events, and then the ending felt incredibly rushed. It sounded interesting, and parts of it were, but in the end it still fell flat for me.
A stunning historical fiction based on a true story from 1727 when a group of men and boys were stranded on the isolated Warrior Stac. I loved it! Click here to read my full review of Geraldine McCaughrean's incredible book.

Story was a 2 for me...simply because I have a fear of birds and this just reinforced it. However, the language in this book is stunning and is easily a 5-star.

I have read two books by Geraldine McCaughrean. Three other is about a teenage girl, stranded in Antarctica with her uncle who is losing his mind. This one is about a group of boys and three men in the 1700s stranded on a rock in the ocean off of Scotland for months. I don't know why McCaughrean finds the most isolated settings and stories possible, but I don't know that I'll read another one. This was beautiful, but bleak and sad and and a stressful read.

This book is so stormy and beautiful. It's relevant in many ways, both historic and present. I don't know how to describe it other than saying you should read it.
