I went into this wanting a cheesy romance and that's exactly what I got
This book was so sweet and so cute I wanted to scream. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship build and wanted to screech at them to finally admit they loved each other to the other. At the end this book had me smiling so hard my cheeks hurt and had one of the most romantic smex scenes I’ve ever read (not that it was particularly detailed) but man was this a good book. I understand why people read historical romance.

Uma promessa em tempo de guerra, um homem e uma mulher honrados e duas personalidades fortes, são a chave para este protótipo que representa na perfeição um romance de época que, prometo-vos, incendiará o coração de todos aqueles que desejem perder-se entre as páginas de uma história de amor.
Ligeiramente Casados foi a minha estreia com a autora Mary Balogh e, indiscutivelmente, entrou para minha lista de eleitas neste género literário, pontuando o seu texto com descrições agradáveis, um humor igualmente aprazível e uma trama que captou totalmente a minha atenção, através das suas personagens centrais, pelas quais torci logo a partir das primeiras linhas deste livro.
Ele. Aidan Bedwyn, é conhecido pela sua conduta militar imaculada com a qual pretende singrar na família e na vida - uma vez que sempre foi remetido para segundo plano pelo seu irmão mais velho, duque. E, para o bem ou para o mal, a postura recta e lealdade para com os seus leva-o a que, num momento de fatalidade, prometa a um companheiro de armas que após finda a sua vida salvaguardará e protegerá a sua irmã, agora só, Eve Morris.
Ela, por sua vez, é uma jovem independente que após anos de submissão ao seu falecido pai aguarda, com expectativa, a chegada do seu irmão da guerra para a concretização dos seus anseios - dar estabilidade a um grupo de renegados sociais -, enquanto espera, com alguma inquietação, a chegada do amor da sua vida, do homem que lhe roubou a inocência.
Infelizmente, tanto Eve como Aidan irão ver logrados os seus planos. Afinal de contas, com a morte do seu irmão, Eve tem apenas alguns dias para casar de quiser continuar com os seus objectivos e Aidan, preso a uma promessa, terá de abdicar de parte dos seus projectos, incluindo mesmo a sua liberdade, se quiser manter-se fiel à palavra que jurou cumprir ao seu companheiro de armas.
A premissa, como puderam ler, é muito simples mas nem por isso menos divertida e repleta de reviravoltas para este jovem casal díspar que, aquando ligeiramente casado, acabará por descobrir uma complexidade emocional que irá muito além das palavras contrariadas, ditas no passado, em nome de um bem maior.
Confesso-vos que me apaixonei-me por Eve e Aidan. São realmente fabulosos! E embora o leitor não esteja constantemente perante cenas tórridas de paixão, é impossível não visualizar os querubins em torno deste par que faz faísca só com o olhar. As suas personalidades são vincadas e arrebatadores, sendo esse o seu maior trunfo e quando aliadas a uma generosidade e valores tão bonitos, são algo maravilhoso de se ler em qualquer bom romance que, certamente, permanecerá na recordação os seus leitores.
As personagens secundárias são também elas interessantes, dividindo-se em três grupos distintos, a sua maneira igualmente interessantes, e que têm como principal função mostrar ao leitor diversas questões, polémicas ou não, do tempo em que e narrada a acção.
Em primeiro lugar temos a família, se é que se pode denominar desta forma, biológica de Eve. Eles são os vilões deste texto e espelham ganância no seu jogo de interesses, muitas vezes utilizado nesta época em que os homens, mesmo depois de mortos, tinham total poder sobre a vida das mulheres, através de cláusulas contratuais hereditárias que monopolizavam totalmente a felicidade dos herdeiros. Acreditem que entre a crueldade há espaço para momentos bastante animados.
Outro grupo é constituído pelos patinhos feios de Eve, um grupo singular de caricaturas perfeitas de exclusão e injustiça, algo que infelizmente ainda hoje se verifica. Eles irão enternecer os vossos corações e são, sem dúvida alguma, uma mais-valia para este livro enriquecendo-o e singularizando-o.
E, por fim, temos a família Bedwyn, que é a menos explorada no livro embora seja protagonista o suficiente para que nos seja dada a conhecer a elite londrina do momento. Estes são muito destintos entre si e serão, certamente, as futuras personagens principais desta série, pelo que o leitor deverá estar atento as particularidades de cada um para tentar adivinhar o que esta autora ainda tem para oferecer.
Em suma, embora este seja um livro com muitos pormenores é também muito focado nos seus intervenientes, algo que aqui foi, a meu ver, trabalhado de forma muito positiva pelos muitos passados explorados que nos oferecem pormenores históricos interessantes. Ainda assim, o romance foi sempre o alvo central do enredo que me conquistou totalmente e comoveu, efusivamente, o meu coração.

Le premier livre d'une série très austenesque =D
J'avoue avoir lu le dernier tome de cette série il y a des années xD Il faut dire que j'ai un amour particulier pour les héros froids et cruels >< Et puis comme je suis dans une phase romance historique, je me suis dit que c'était l'occasion de voir l'histoire des autres Bedwyn =D
J'ai beaucoup aimé ce livre qui a un petit côté Jane Austen : l'ambiance provinciale, un héros très froid ... Mais il y a aussi une promesse faite à un frère décédé, une héroïne attachante résolue à sauver tout le monde, un héros qui a du s'endurcir pour survivre à la guerre et aux exigences de la société, un mariage précipité et une romance slow-burn comme je les aime x)
Bon un seul regret : des scènes de sexe nulles xD Après la passion des Elizabeth Hoyt ou des Tessa Dare, j'avoue que la lecture ici a été dure ><
Bref, j'ai hâte de lire l'histoire des autres Bedwyn <3

I must admit I read the last book of this series years ago xD It must be said that I have a special love for cold and cruel heroes so ... >< And then as I am in a historical romance phase, I told myself that it was an opportunity to read the story of other Bedwyn =D
I really liked this book that has a small Jane Austen side : the provincial atmosphere, a very cold hero ... But there are also the the promise made to a deceased brother, an endearing heroine determined to save everyone, a hero who had to harden himself to survive the war and the demands of society, a hurried marriage and a slow-burn romance as I love them x)
Only one regret : awful sex scenes xD After the passion of Elizabeth Hoyt or Tessa Dare books, I must admit that reading the sex scenes here has been hard ><
In short, I can't wait to read the story of the other Bedwyn <3

After a promising premise w/ a marriage of convenience between strangers based on a promise of the FMC's dying brother, this one never really came together for me. To me, Aiden and Eve never make a satisfying leap from unfamiliar to familiar. Their initial acquaintance when they first meet was very charming and sweet, but once we get all of Aiden's family involved and the whole middle chunk o the story is about how Eve isn't a proper wife for a Duke's heir, it really took away from some of the momentum of their love story. Especially because they just jump into bed together for no other reason besides they can. Neither of them communicate well and constantly say the opposite of what they are thinking, until right at the end, the book needs them to come clean so they do. The end. It just wasn't that satisfying for me.
One thing that really did bother me was a comment after the conversation between the MCs where Aiden is going on about how he never wanted to join the military, but because he was the second son of a Duke he was forced to do it anyway. Eve thinks to herself something like "wow the aristocracy are less free than than everyone else in England". To which I literally rolled my eyes reading and said "Seriously?" out loud. Aiden has a literal fking batman to do all of his dressing and chores for him, who would rather stay awake all night until his master comes home super late in order to not let his clothes press weird than have it take twice as long to properly dress him the next day. Yet Aiden has it worse than anyone?? Also he has the privilege of being able to quit the military (where he's an officer, not even like a lowly foot soldier or anything) the moment he has something better come along because he has the financial privilege of being born in the aristocracy to do so. Most of those people he served with had probably no freedom to earn a living other than joining the military and those people couldn't get out even if they wanted to. What a joke of a comment.

I'm a sucker for serialised romance novels. The concept of these huge families with all these brothers and sisters getting married off one by one is fun every time. The common thread of all the romances in the Slightly series, seems to be that every engagement or wedding seems to be in more than a little hurry.

One day I need to go through my books and shelve them by trope - this would on the top of my marriage of convenience list. or near the top. let me distance myself from this, I'm really happy right now.
I'm worried that when I say certain books are really quietly thorough about how they piece people and their stories together, it seems like I'm calling them slow and unemotional and clinical, but I don't think mechanical writing is a bad thing if they're dealt with well, and I definitely don't think they're bad if they give me a romance that works, and Balogh is so, so good at making everything fit. I'm so content right now. I loved these characters, I loved how well they worked together. stories about grumpy boys out of war and charmingly bleeding-hearted ladies don't work for me often, and this book didn't have just one of those but both, and I still loved them. like they felt made for each other, really designed to fit. and both of them really ended up being more than the tropes I labelled them with.
I loved the story, and that the 'convenience' of this wasn't haphazard and ridiculous but just? really well-orchestrated? and once again I don't mean that in a bad way!!!! I just super appreciate it, super-super appreciate it, when romance novels give me stories I can be happy about beyond the falling-in-love bits. this one had loads of it. side characters that didn't monopolize but who made me feel fond of them regardless, things that made me Emotional, and something really charming just laced throughout the story and the writing. lovely!
I really liked the rest of the family we saw here but all I have on my ereader right now is Slightly Dangerous and I don't think I'm waiting to start another so ha! haah! I'M SO EXCITED.
