1.5 since it took me the night to finish reading which meant it was engaging enough. I read this first and then Slightly Scandalous.
Twas no wonder I hesitated picking up other books in the saga besides slightly dangerous and a summer to remember.
Aidan, so kayu-like except towards the end where he melted into a puddle of love for Eve and affection for Becky and Davy. Still, his kayu-ness, I couldn't relate.
All wham bam thank you mam summary:
Might as well engage in conjugal relations since we're never going to see each other again?
Oh let's keep doing it!
There's no way we could have reproduced?
If we did, we'll uh... wait and see.
Oh you didn't, das great!
Who is this man, green eyed monster scenes ensues...
Let's not talk, just be all cold with each other and most definitely not sex it up.
Oh, I miss you but we're on pause. No sweet talking, kisses and hugs liddat!
*Interesting part happens which thankfully brings the two together for a while*
I love you but I'm leaving
I love you but you're leaving
I love dem kids too but imma leave, let's go swimming
Yay swimming.....i luv ya
I love you too and I'm not leaving
Yassss me too, let's stay and be real good parents!

Liked the idea of it, I guess, but didn't feel the chemistry enough
3.5 Stars.
Strongly structured characters, heart jerking moments, but I found myself not overly excited about the romance aspect.
Mary Balogh serves us a marriage of convenience troupe with plenty of drama in the works. But I feel she failed to completely nail crucial moments of tension. Eve's reunion with her ex-secret-fiancé felt lukewarm and ultimately was dismissed without a definitive conclusion. The ex walks away declaring his eagerness to see her between the sheets in about a week or two. What was the point of all that drama if we are denied closure? And I was very disappointed to see Eve denied a moment of triumph over the ex that did her wrong. Her relationship with Aidan also felt anticlimactic. When they go to bed with each other for the first time there was zero preheating. He just suggested that maybe they should sleep together and she went with it. There was no passion- no boiled over feelings of lust, anger, frustration or anything. And as the story progresses I cannot name one significant moment of connection or understanding between the two. It's great they got their HEA, but I would have been equally content if they continued their initial plan of living separate lives.
I will say that this did help curve my Bridgerton withdrawal. Lot's of society, ballroom parties and all that. And I also liked the child custody drama, which is kind of rare in this genre.

Will probably read more from this author but the lack of communication really killed this one for me.
If you want to try romance novels, you can't go wrong reading about the Bedwyn family.
