It is my turn to use.
It is my turn to hurt.
My turn.

DAMNNNNN GIRL
I am so glad I went back to this book after 7 months of not finishing the last third of it (I am awful I know).
Though I forgot some parts it all came flooding back to me and it was amazing!!

I loved Adelina and how bad she is. It's so cool to follow an antihero and how she becomes what she is. It was a breath of fresh air. And she's not perfect; she is selfish, she is envious. But Marie Lu did it SO WELL because I fucking love her and I feel for her so much and HOW AMAZING IS IT to read a book where you are actually rooting for the person who shouldn't win??

I also really enjoyed Adelina and Violetta's relationship. I hope they get closer and have that same bond in future books because I think they go great together and the ending with them was just so touching.

I am really satisfied with reading this, I love seeing a badass who will not back down no matter what people say or want (cough cough Alina starkov from the Grisha trilogy DONT FUCKIN REMIND ME OF THAT BULLSHIT). Even though I know how this series ends (yes apparently I find out how every series ends before i read it shut up) I'm excited to continue the series and I know it's gonna end with a fucking bang!! (Plus now apparently I get to read about magiano so HELL YEAH)

This book is making me want to scream. Like really, really bad, lose-your-voice scream.

First of all, Marie Lu is a good writer. This is the first book that I've read by her and I can tell because of the passion in her writing and the emotion she envokes through her words. Her imagery is good, her dialogue and the pace of the book set by her keeps you anxious and excited.

This is a well thought out book set in a very interesting world. The world building is very okay, though I'm hoping to find out more. There wasn't a lot of world building, but I'm mostly okay with that because too much can get boring. It was still lacking, which I will elaborate later on. I also like the plot.

Now the reason I wanna scream: The characters.

I don't know about you but I, personally, would like at least one person I can root for. At least one decent human being.

In this book, every single character is downright horrible. I want all of then to just die. Okay, not all of them. but that's onlu because I don't know a lot of them very well. The main focus of the story has been Adelina. We know her the best and I wish she would just die. Next, we know Taren, who I also want dead. We didn't really get to know Enzo well, sadly. Raphaele? Kill him please.

SpoilerYou know, I'm sad that Enzo died. I'm happy, but also sad. It makes no sense since I've never like him to begin with. But since we didn't know him that much, there's still a half percent chance that could maybe could have been an okay guy. That upsets me.

I just wish there was someone, anyonewasn't a power-hungry, rage-fueled, merciless, self-righteous murderer.

Now for an actual critism: The powers wren't explained as well as they should have been. They were only explained vaguely, Something about energy, their connection to energy after the blood fever but not much else. It also wasn't explained why a person got a certain power while another got a different one.

And one final thing that wasn't explained was whether this was a fantasy world or just a normal world that was introduced to supernatural elements after the blood fever. What is normal for them. Because for something to be out of the ordinary, you have to develop some norms.

Overall, this was a very unique book, telling the story of a villain. I still want a hero though, someone to balance out the awefulness. I mean, there Violetta, but she doesn't exactly seem the type to go against a lot of people and to fight for what's right. She's more of a plead-to-your-inner-goodness type. But who knows?

I recommend this to anyone who likes some darkness...

I loved this book! I love Adelina's battle with the darkness. I love the flashes of backstory that we some times get. I love that some of the chapters are set from the enemies point of view. I just love it! This book did not disappoint me in any way. What I don't love is the fact that I have to wait until October 2015 for the next book. I'll have to read the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu, she's a wonderful writer.

2.5. Good setting, good worldbuilding. I'm a sucker for X-Men, and the powers were cool. Some were more interesting than others (wish we got more of the Architect). I just wanted one lovable, funny side character (preferably with powers), is that so much to ask? Adelina was OK, she kinda grew on me. I don't ship her and Enzo (who needs to STAY DEAD). Everyone else was kind of boring. My FAVORITE part of this book was the villain, Teren, intimidating and sympathetic (with powers to boot!). So interesting! I can't get the hilarious image out of my head of the Dagger Society making playing cards for each of their members, I mean how else does the whole city know their "super-cool" nicknames. I just don't think your secret society should be advertising how many members they have.

I found this book very intriguing at first. The cover is what drew me to it and after reading the first couple of pages it made me want to know what happened. However this feeling didn't last with me the entire book. It was far too slow in my opinion. Though definately not a bad read, i just didn't have the patience to read the entire thing. I found myself getting overly impatient to get to the end and simply skipped to the end. Something i very rarely do because i feel there's no point in reading the book if you do this. I got about halfway through it though so i can't say it was horrible. It wasn't.
It just wasn't captivating to me. Partially because i don't feel that you feel the main characters emotions. They just seem like words on a page. If you like books that are centered in the 1300s then this might be a good choice for you. That's exactly where this book starts out. And i suppose i should have known because of that that i wouldn't finish it because i tend to have high standards for books from these times.
Overall, it's worth picking up to an extent. I'm not sure i would recommend it to many people though.
