Midnight in Death

For a short story, this one had it all!

A seriously creepy criminal in this novella - I hate torture!

Short novella set immediately after the last novel, covering the week from Christmas until New Year's when a serial killer has decided it's the time to complete their murder check list.

I liked that it was a bit different since we know from the start who the killer is and it's a race against the clock to save everyone on the list.

And of course I loved all the Eve and Roarke moments which is something I always say!

I've tried JD Robb Before. I haven't liked the Eve Dallas books as much as your garden variety Nora, but I did really like this one. Maybe I'll go back and try some of the longer works? I like Eve and Roarke as a married couple so much, I might not be able to backtrack at this point.

Short and viciously sweet.

Eve and Dallas have barely been able to celebrate their first Christmas together. In this brief story, in novella length, Eve is after yet another killer. As always, Roarke is at her side while she works hard at finding the madman behind a series of brutal murders, and as Eve is one of his targets, she must manage to stay alive.

For a story told with so few pages, it is chock full of detail. We have the ever-loving couple, with Eve drawing closer and closer to her delectable husband Roarke. Then there is Eve's ever-irascible boss Feeney, and, of course, Peobody. Gotta love her. Who else do you just love, inasmuch as you want to hate? Only Summerset, Roarke's right-hand man and Eve's nemesis.

This story was so much fun that I couldn't wait follow my monthly schedule of reading each month, and so I went ahead and devoured the next in this series, Conspiracy in Death.

I'm telling you......if you haven't read this series, you have to hunt down these books like I'm trying to do and read them. I never thought I would get hooked on a series of books that is 40+ books and counting. I love Eve, Roarke, Peabody.....the whole cast of characters. Laugh out loud moments, moments of OMG!.

This was a free novelette. I'm not really a fan of short books/stories. I decided to try it out. But I guess I'll give a full JD Robb book a try.

3 stars-

This was fine! It wasn’t bad. Personally, I think I prefer the full length novels in this series. Not really any development from anyone except Eve, so this was pretty much strictly the case at hand, which makes sense given that it’s a novella. Not really much to say- I enjoy the escaped serial killer trope, but I wish I had read a previous book about his original capture. I think it would’ve been a lot more impactful if I had seen David Palmer firsthand before this novella. We’ve also had a few serial killers in a row now, so I’m hoping we switch it up with a different killing style next book. Still fun, and a quick read!

A good little novella, writing flowed and I didn't feel like the author was trying to rush to the end, as I sometimes feel when reading a novella.
