Definitely a slog in places--it's in love with language and knowledge, and this often takes the form of digressions and catalogues. But I liked its central thesis, the mystery, and the relationship between William and Adso. I saw why it was doing what it was doing, even if it didn't always engage me.

I skipped a lot of the lists, descriptions, and some of the sermons. Like Adso, I relied on William's simplified translations of conversations and events, unable to make sense of most them myself. Probably I didn't get as much out of this book as others, but I did enjoy the mysteries, both the earthly and philosophical.
