The Half of It

I've read a lot of memoir's and autobiography's of celebrities, i've always been a fan of them as someone who's just snoopy and loves to know about peoples lives, even celebrities i'm not die-hard fan of. i picked up madison beer's memoir "the half of it" pretty much for the same reason, ive always listened to the occasional single of madison's and enjoyed them but I wouldn't have considered myself like a die-hard fan of hers. however, reading the half of it really put into perspective the things she's gone through and what many other woman (famous or not) go through. "the half of it" is such an honest title for this book because I can truly see how much madison is really holding back from sharing about her story and i don't know if that's just for personal reasons or she doesn't want to come across as complaining (which she stated in the very first page). its truly heartbreaking to read all the things she went through and she still feels like she has to apologize for how she feels. anyways, I think this was a truly great read and it's super super short so i definitely recommend whether you're a fan or not (especially if you're not, because I think it would change your opinion).

surprisingly reflective, informative, and raw. i initially i was doubtful of how meaningful this could be because the writing felt weak and repetitive but it evolved to actually be quite vulnerable and dark. it’s rare to hear about the dark experiences of those in industry. they are human just like us but we only have the public perception of them so it’s really easy to judge and make assumptions. i just knew Beer as someone who was uniquely pretty and popular online, and see her differently now. it is pretty scary to be exposed to such unhealthy things at a young age and having to unlearn those as an adult.

I honestly didn't expect to like this as much as I did

An intense yet powerful memoir. I read this blind, unaware of the struggles she endured. Throughout, I kept thinking about how brave she was to put her pain and struggles into words, all while considering her fans and audience. She turned her own pain into something relatable, making us part of her journey. I'm glad I read it, and I ended the book with a sense of hope.

I really enjoyed this book - I listened to it through Audible. Listening to her talk about her story was deep and just gave a glimpse of what celebrities go through behind the scenes - and how it really isn't right for the way they are sometimes treated and critiqued. Her struggles and just how she speaks on mental health issues was so refreshing.

i’m not even a fan. but wow.
