First off, this book is surprisingly well written. Madison Beer's got some serious writing skills, and she knows exactly what she wants to say and why.
The book aims to demystify the whole celebrity experience, and I have to say, she does it with clarity and confidence. She's got a way with words, and she chooses them wisely to get her message across. You can tell she's thought long and hard about her sentences.
Now, here's the thing that puzzled me a bit. She's still healing while she's writing this book. I mean, why not wait until things calm down, right? But despite that, she's incredibly reflective and thoughtful throughout. Plus, she drops some research-backed quotes here and there, whichI like a lot. It adds some credibility to what she's saying.
"The Half of It" almost reads like a manifesto for better visibility and understanding of mental health issues, which seems to be Beer's main topic. She's passionate about it, and you can feel it in her words. She's determined to shed light on the struggles that come with fame and the importance of taking care of your mental well-being.

this book is exactly what i needed in this moment. on my list of rereads to annotate because you can definitely take away a lot of this book and insert it into your life. you can share similar experiences and feel understood. the writing just expressed how i’ve felt in similar ways. it was everything and more. growing up along side madison is crazy to think about, to hear how her life went. how similar even if we’re two different people who grew up differently. we’re human in the end and each one of us share at least something in common.

The Half of It
Madison Beer
4 stars!
I picked this up on a whim. I know of Madison Beer and followed her a little bit, but I wasn't a huge fan or anything (not because I didn't like her- I do). After reading this book I have gained a lot of respect for her. We are not too far apart in age, and hearing her go through some of the struggles I went through was extremely comforting (even though sad). I think many people think that people like Madison seem to have it all, and are not allowed to be depressed (a huge topic in this book) when that's simply not the case. Celebrties are people too, and this book really puts that into perspective. Madison says something along the lines of "fame is just a side effect to the career I have chose" and I think that's a wonderful insight. I am so glad I picked this up. Somethings got a little repetitive at times, but I think that just showcases how the hate and hurt she receives is repetitive as well. Check trigger warnings before picking this up, but definitely give it a read.
