My first ventured for an audiobook, borrowed from national library using libby app. Safe to say this is not the first and last time I will listen to an audiobook. I actually love it. The vibes was different but having someone else reading it to you with certain kind of drama and tone of voices was very entertaining. Disclaimer I haven't watch the movie, but I read the synopsis beforehand and get to know the main characters.

I may not notice all the small things, but the emotion it brings me was delivered.

Okay let's get to the story, I picked the least time consuming audiobook since this only took me three hours, and Nicholas Sparks is a no stranger to me, I read most of his books so I've already know his style of writings.

It all started with a message in a bottle where Theresa found a letter Garret wrote for his beloved deceased wife. The story can get pretty illogical, baru dua tiga hari kenal/okay baru dua tiga jam kenal dah boleh I love you gittew. Lepas tu terus macam I've meet the one. I cringe okay.

It's pretty good for the most part, but then killing Garrett seemed just for shock value. He decides that he really does love this woman, but before he can fully commit, must sail in a storm to leave a letter to his dead wife? And then he dies trying this? I can't even figure out what this is suppose to mean thematically.

Enjoyable, but not nearly as good as The Notebook.

Left at a coffee shop in Quito, Ecuador.

Reading this book was like drinking a flavored water. You like it while it lasts but you soon forget about it and it doesn't impact you in any way.
The story was enjoyable enough, characters interesting enough but my eyes were dry even at the saddest parts.
An extra star is for writing good female characters that aren't sexualised. The main character is still a slender and attractive woman, but thank god she's also ambitious, emotional and relatively complex. An added bonus is that she's older than the male love interest. By few years but still... it was a nice touch.

Every now and then, especially after a busy period of time, I tend to gravitate towards the easy-reads. One of the obvious choices for me at that moment is Nicholas Sparks. His books are all very similar and have the power to make me relax even in the most stressful of times. Definitely not literature, but most certainly my favourite guilty pleasure.

Message in a Bottle explains the story of Theresa who reminisces on her whirlwind relationship with Garrett. They met in an extraordinary way and had a very interesting and emotional relationship. The novel was very typically Nicholas Sparks, however the ending was unexpected. Usually everything works out in the end and they live happily ever after. This time not so much as apparently Garrett didn't live at all. Sorry for the spoiler!

This had an ok story line. I just wanted to puke the entire time. And for me, there was too much mush and sex in this novel, which isn't for me. The way Garrett obsessed about his former wife was a little crazy, but I am sure if I lost my spouse I would probably be even worse. I guess I figured he would end up dying in the ocean. It did pain me at the end that him and Theresa never made up and got back together.

Firstly, message in a bottle had all the same qualities of a Nicholas sparks yet it did have a different tone. Yes all his stories have that girl meets boy and in the end happily ever after but the tone of this highlights other emotive topics, it highlights grief and pain and guilt, it highlights honesty about emotions and the price we pay for our feelings. I really enjoyed this it had all the feels and it ended in a way I couldn’t predict at first
dark emotional lighthearted reflective sad slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Message in a Bottle was pretty good. I love the characters and the plot for most of the book. Several things I did not like was how the characters fought. The ending was what ruined the end for me I wished it was different. I wished the ending did not change how I felt, but it did. The ending left me feeling irritated.
