For once, it's not the characters that drove this story for me. They're fleshed out well, and very human, very vulnerable, interesting enough...but I was driven more by the idea than by the characters who were presenting it. The concept of "paying it forward" is something everyone in the world should take to heart. This book was in danger of being slightly preachy at times, but it's all completely forgivable because who wouldn't forgive such a fantastic, beautiful idea that could really change the world if everyone took it to heart?
There was a lot of language, which is one my one big complaint about the book - it was wholly unnecessary, and did nothing to add to the quality of the idea. Other than that, I enjoyed the book, and it even made me tear up a little at the end.

Concept ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Book itself: ⭐⭐⭐
Don't think this book aged well.
I also don't like all the stereotyping.

Mixed feeling about this book.

The ending felt a bit cheap, like the author tried to squeeze the emotions out of the reader.

I liked the beginning of the book and the fact that not everyone was going to "pay it forward", that's just how the real world works. But then it turned into something more idealistic. It sort of why it's a 4 stars for me.

Also, the love triangle didn't make any sense to me. I couldn't relate to Arlene's choices.

Despite all that, it was still an enjoyable read.

Read aloud to my 10 year old daughter. Even though this is a Young Readers edition with a 4th grade reading level, I felt like it was still geared toward Junior High readers for the concepts and vocabulary.

L'ho letto quando avevo 14-15 anni e secondo me TUTTI i ragazzi dovrebbero leggerlo.

I loved the story as much as I did when I first saw the movie, but regretably even this young reader's edition is still much too mature for my classroom.
