“‘That’s what you must forgo, Kyoshi, the easy answers. You must give up your desire for someone to tell you your choices were correct in the end.’”

I really cannot say enough good things about this series. So here are a bunch of green flags:

✅ World building & complex characterization not beholden to a network audience
✅ Dynamic moral quandaries with actual world implications
✅ A relatable protagonist who’s always too hard on herself when she’s doing the best she can
✅ Honestly a coming of age story
✅ F O U N D F A M I L Y & the cutest fcking friends to lovers relationship between two useless queers

Really, you guys. This is everything I wished the Avatar comics were, and I wish we could get this in an animated form because the writing is top-knot (geddit it’s a firebender pun).

I’ve said it before & I’ll say it again: if the curse of the Avatar is to forever isolate from humanity, the gift of the Avatar is to have friends who follow them into their hiding places & stand with them anyway. Big fan.

I love learning more about one of my favorites but I wish there was more. More about the BA adult.

Well not quite as good as the first one, successful job of delving deeper into fire nation history
and teaching us more about avatar Ang''s predecessors. I felt it did fall into a couple of tropes at times, especially between avatar
 Kyoshi and her relationships
with a couple of different people. However, I found the end satisfying, and the return of an ensemble group of characters from the first book was welcome towards the end and all too short. Still, a fun read as a fan!
