One of the best thrillers I’ve read in a long time. I have found a new author to love. Great writing style and an even better story. I couldn’t put it down!
Really struggled to finish this one, it didn't keep my interest much at all.
More of a 3.5. Not terrible, but somewhat predictable. I also was super bothered by a number of editing errors that should’ve been caught prior to publication.

DNF halfway through, the first half was so long that I lost interest. I also thought it was a slasher, which is mostly why I lost interest
mmmmmm this book is weird about diabetes
it’s also boring
and i’m so annoyed that the mc has like 1 internal conflict for the first 70% and just keeps going back and forth like omg girl just fucking commit to telling people your secret it’s not that bad

Goldie waits all year to spend the summer at Camp Alpine Lake with her best friends Ava and Imogen. After the terrible year she’s had, she’s more desperate than ever to escape to the place that has become her haven. But when a body is discovered in the lake, suddenly camp isn’t the safe place Goldie always thought it was.
I usually like to start my summer reading in May, and this book was the perfect way to kick off the season. It’s a thriller that takes place at a summer camp, and now that’s all I want to read. I loved the atmosphere so much! There are flashbacks throughout the book as we slowly learn what Goldie is trying to get from in her life. I didn’t find any of the twists predictable, which is always a plus for me with a thriller. Overall, I had a great time reading this book, and I definitely recommend picking it up!
If you’re looking for a great thriller to add to your summer TBR, this is it! It releases tomorrow, so make sure to pick up a copy. Thank you so much Penguin Teen for sending me an ARC to read and review.

This book had lots of potential, mostly interesting characters, cover ups and a murder. But then the final reveal was such a let down and really felt out of left field, when it could have gone for a much more emotionally impactful final result.
Goldie was a good character. She was complex, with conflict about where she fits in, her small town or her ritzy summer camp, and doesn’t full share her true thoughts with anyone. Her relationship with Heller was a surprise to Goldie but seemed to help her define who she was as a person. The way Goldie is treated after NYE by Heller and he classmates, sets in motion a summer that is devastating, dangerous, and makes Goldie question everything she thought she knew.
Since one of the main focuses of the book was the friendship between Goldie, Ava and Imogen, very other character felt really underdeveloped especially the male characters. The story sets up like Cal, the one time best friend of Goldie, is going to play a huge role in the story but he essentially is background and ignored for pretty much the whole story. Meg has a slightly bigger role but still feels completely one dimensional.
While I didn’t love this book, Goodman is a solid YA mystery writer so I’ll definitely pick up more from her.

This book was very fast paced making you never want to put it down. When I thought that the mc had figured everything out there was always another twist. As someone who has been in a slump and having a hard time finding a book that makes me not want to put it down this was a great book to get back into reading with.
Extremely slow start. But enjoyed the last 100 pgs of it a ton. None of Goodman’s books have quite lived up to her first one in my humble opinion. But I’m going to continue reading them bc if nothing else they are all nice easy breezy reads.
