Cora Reilly

3.5 AVERAGE

at first I wanted to rate it 3.5 stars but, lest be honest it was good.

at the beginning it's not bored but to read all over again things that I already knew from other books was a little bit tiring lol. still, it was interesting to read about dante and carla, I honestly thought we would have more of them but this was enough. I felt so bad for carla, she was such a good woman.
also the fact that she thought dante was a virgin saving himself until marriage just cracked me.

dante is so loyal towards the one he loves and cares, with ines when they were young, with valentina, with serafina, I just admire him a lot, he keeps protecting them no matter the situation.

I feel bad bc I couldn't stop laughing when I realized he just has the worst luck of all.

it was nice to read about anna, leonas, the next generation in general. sofia, such a sweet kid, I'm actually looking forward to read her book, to get to know such cruelty being so young.

everytime remo was mentioned or appear I would just scream.

bibianna having the happiness she deserves, one of the best parts of the book, I'm so happy for her.

I'm curious about rj and ricci, rocco died with then being young so maybe.. maybe they'll be a little but better than him, idk. it was cute how leonas thought of firing rocco in the future so rj could be his second lol I love that kid.

EDIT: so, funny story (?), i was actually convinced that Cora said that Anna's li would be an outsider, so even though i kept seeing that she mentioned Santino a lot.. I just thought "oh well he may have a book after I mean she does write books for every character so" and I thought clifford was going to be Anna's li, since he is an outsider. for once I was actually surprised, since Cora doesn't usually break her own patterns, but .. well I see it now, that apparently I got confused and Anna's li is going to be santino. and to this point I'm not gonna lie, I'll read every book bc even if I don't care about that shipp or character, it has breadcrumbs of the one I do care (don't take this wrong I did like anna a lot, but I don't really like her paired with santino, still I'm gonna give them a chance)

Wow... Idk what to say.

Bound by the Past made me fall in love with Dante Cavallaro and Valentina Aresco - Cavallaro all over again. The story retells Bound by Duty in Dante's perspective and the rest of the books in Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles and Camorra Chronicles. We get the glimpse of the past, present and future as Dante ruled the Chicago Outfit.

Out of the Capos / Mafia Leaders, Dante is the wisest and the most intelligent. Some of you thought either the Famiglia or the Camorra are stronger. To me, Chicago Outfit is the strongest. Many questioned Dante's leadership because of his decisions. He isn't perfect and he committed a lot of mistakes throughout and may considered as betrayal. Yet he did it for good intentions. He has morals and he can masks his emotions. At first, he's not the best husband to Valentina but she sets him straight. We are all frustrated when he didn't say the "L" word. He's not a fan of PDA and likes to keep his love for Valentina privately.

Dante and Valentina are more reserved than any other couples. As husband and wife, they grew to love and support each other in the toughest times. Valentina taught him to love and I love how she pushed his buttons. Of course Dante makes up for the lost time by being a responsible husband and father to his wife and children. I swear these two are my top favorites along with Serafina and Remo (Twisted Pride).

I JUST LOVE DANTE AND VALENTINA OK?! I TURNED INTO A SAPPY SHIT.

I think I will read whatever this author writes in the Mafia world. Excellent as always.

I was wondering what was going on in the Outfit, especially during Twisted Pride and this gave me what I was interested in.

For covering such a large time span, the book was not the best at telling us where we were exactly. It did focus on some important scenes but others were barely mentioned or brushed over despite being important.
Overall, I feel most of the joy I had while reading came from the fact that I (currently) have all the other books in good memory. Therefor, references, characters and actions got a broader context and were more settled into the world. The story does not really stand on its own like the others do.

Valentina is one of my favourite female characters in this universe and this book just confirms it. I struggled with so much in Bound by Love but none of that was a problem here. I could get behind their motivations and reasonings; Dante's fear and devotion for his family as a driving force moved the plot forward and Valentina is strong in both her morals and acceptance of the world that rules them. They overcome their struggles and work it out together.

*3.5*
I really loved how much Valentina and Dante have grown from bound by duty, they have really good development and being completely honest they're my favorite couple and family of this series, my problem with this book isn't them or Dante because in fact I loved him more here and I dare to say he's the only smart capo Cora has written even if Remo is my favorite.
I found a lot of problems here:
- the first one is how repetitive the books are getting with the 463262 flashbacks scenes, trust me they're not necessary and we have read about those scenes too many times to count + the way Cora writes them makes the flashbacks feel rushed and forced and sometimes is too difficult to empathize with the characters in those moments.
I know it must be hard to create a different plot for so many books, but I really want something different for the upcoming books
- LUCARIA, I honestly don't like this couple they're the equivalent of Michael and rika from corrupt, but in a mafia setting, this is basically a complaint about all her books but I found unnecessary how much she has to remind us how Luca and Aria are "saints" to the point of painting her other characters in a bad light for it.
I mean the whole Orazio thing? a shit show to show how good Luca is, it's getting annoying
- the beta readers, again not about the book, but more about the whole series, this book was weird structured and I get lost a couple of times, plus there are spelling mistakes which is weird considering Cora is already a big author.
- the other books we are getting that are going to happen in the same timeline... do we really have to read all of those events again? also, I think some of them are completely unnecessary when she already shows us how the relationships happened

my 3.5 stars are entirely for the family moments, I loved every second of it and I prefer to read 500 pages about them being together than anything else that happened here.
