I love the Invisible Library series so much. Such a unique universe! I enjoyed how The Mortal Word was more of a "traditional" detective novel than previous books, but have a serious bone to pick about the fade to black between Irene and a certain handsome someone.

This 5th book of the series definitely read like a mystery - the main characters were all put together to solve a murder at a peace treaty convention. I would honestly say that this was probably my least favorite of the series so far, even though I really enjoy the mystery genre. I just felt like there was a LOT of dialogue and coincidence... a lot of things happen at the perfect time with not as effective explanation. There were also quite a few new members on the "investigative" team, whose perspectives aren't written from, and for me this caused a lot of confusion - they would split up and report findings that we don't really get to read about. Overall, the book was still very fun and the politics behind dragon-fae relationships was still very tense and interesting. I did enjoy the reveal at the end as well, even if you can kind of see it coming. Still very well written and enjoyable!

I need the next book

There is a next book, right?
Every book of this series has been worth reading. This one was no exception. A cast of all of your favorite characters and several new ones investigate murders and attempt to secure peace. Complete with new villains, a new world, and a more in depth look into both the dragons and the library The Mortal Word was an excellent installment. My only complaint is my urgency to secure the next book.

I enjoy the characters and the plot moves at a good pace. My one complaint is that she introduced the mystery of Irene’s parentage a couple books back and this book references her parents but she never deals with that information. It’s that old saying “if you’re going to introduce a gun in the first act then it better be used by the third act.” It’s annoyingly.

As Craig Revel Horwood might say Fab-U-Lous! Great characters both heroes and foes, fantastic lotions, these books keep just getting better and better.
