What did I just read. Um… I thought this was about to be a cozy, little dusting of murder over Christmas. Miss Scarlet in the kitchen with the poisonous mince pies it was not! Someone should really point out that this book will just make you sad, scared, and slightly depressed. Not even in a fun way where ghosts of Christmas past, present and future are about to visit you.

I honestly think I would have liked this so much more if it wasn’t labeled as a Christmas book. It has disturbing elements that make you go “woah”, and it’s a bit much at times. I know some people love the holiday season with a side of Krampus or coal, but I’m sadly not that lady. I prefer my Christmas books to be the key to my heart, not the key to the time I will never get back reading this book.

Lily Armitage is returning to Endgame House after 21 years. Her family used to play a Christmas game that will now serve as an inheritance game among the cousins. The one that finds the right key to the secret room will inherit the house. But Lily doesn't want to own the house; she was dragged into the game because her recently deceased aunt promised Lily she would learn the truth behind her mother's death if she stayed and solved all the clues. Endgame House is not done claiming lives, one of them is stabbed after the game commences, and no one knows who did it.
I was really invested in the story at the beginning but lost interest as the story progressed. The culprit was very obvious from the start, though the twist was something I didn't see coming.

It was a good book, but the idea that
the only people left alive/all the heros were all queer women
was a bit much for me. I'm a feminist AND a queer woman, but
killing off all the straight people is just as bad as movies/books that only kill off the queer characters or the POC
. I did enjoy the mystery and the game. slightly predictable, but still good.

this was a bit mad - murder, but make it festive

Entertaining and seasonal. Maybe a bit cheesy at points and the characters don’t have the most development through the book but it’s a fun, who dunit, festive read :)

I enjoyed this locked room style mystery set in an eerie house that holds generations of secrets. Lily and her cousins return to Endgame House, where they all lived as children, after the death of Aunt Liliana. The purpose of this trip is to play one final game in the house - a game that will give the winner the deeds to the house. And for Lily, the game will reveal who killed her mother, who was thought to have taken her own life at Endgame 21 years ago. The family has to hand in their mobile phones, and the clues will be revealed on each of the 12 days of Christmas by housekeeper, Mrs Castle. A wild storm snows them in and when a family member is found dead, there is no way for them to leave the house or even call the police for help. The book was very cleverly plotted and I didn't solve a single clue. It became obvious half way through the book who the killer must be, mainly because everyone else was dying.
