I'm generally not a fan of classics, but this on has been on my list since high school so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm so glad I did. Stowe's writing is powerfully brilliant, and was a welcome reprieve from Oliver Twist (which I read just before UTC). Though none of the events in the novel come as a surprise to me (I'm a Black American, slave history is literally in my blood) I found the plot infinitely interesting. I really wanted to see what happened in the end.
I listened to this book via Librivox. John Greenman is an excellent reader and gave the characters personalities without sounding forced. Highly recommend.

I read this book a long time ago, and I don’t remember all the details now, but Uncle Tom’s Cabin is really good. I remember reading it in one sitting without getting bored. This story helped me to understand more about the slave trade, racism, and the harsh lives of Black people at that time, as well as their noble qualities. Although classics are not my favorite genre, this book exceeded my expectations and became one of my favorite classic books!

This was a very eye-opening read about the mindset of a northern abolitionist at the time. The book is less about the African American slaves and more a philosophical essay on slavery and its implications in the American and Christian society. It was a relief to see how far our country has changed since then and yet discouraging that similar mindsets and patterns of abuse are still seen in America and other countries around the world.
