I read this book for a reading challenge - a book published in the year I was born. It was light hearted and pretty fun, but middle grade isn't my favorite

This was cute! Who names a girl Turtle! One star has been removed for third person omniscient perspective. Three stars remain for Turtle, and one because I figured out the answer 34% of the way into the book, but didn't really care.

I mean, it was very cute and convoluted, and good to read with a buddy so you can discuss the clues and so on, but I think it depended so much on some manipulative old trickster making everyone chase their tails that it felt fundamentally mean-spirited.

I just reread this book for shiggles because it was a nice break from all the other reading I'm doing for classes. My 6th grade teacher read this to us and I remember absolutely loving it. Even this time around it was still super entertaining.

This was an elementary favorite of mine and I was so proud of myself for piecing it together then. Now, the details long forgotten but the fondness of the story still in my mind, I read it again to see if it stands up to time. It absolutely does. It’s a fast-paced story that’s told in woven, webbed pieces, sometimes a new strand starting without you even realizing it. Certain parts triggered memories as I re-read but the multiple twists at the end and the time accounted for after the game were still just as exciting to get to this time. It’s probably the book I remembered the most from my childhood so the nostalgia adds to my rating but I also just genuinely think Raskin was a great storyteller. It was a quick read to get me out of a slump but I hope it ignites a lifelong love of reading for some young person out there.

I forgot how much I love this book. I remember reading it as a kid and being so proud that I figured it out way before the end. It's a fun little mystery to read and the way it's told is interesting. Definitely a good book for young adults or even adults who enjoy YA mysteries.

second book club book!! just as entertaining as i remembered it being when i first read it in fifth grade. a true mystery until the final chapters and sooo fun for the active reader.
