I really enjoyed all the interesting future tech in the book. It definitely is helpful to have read Jane Eyre in order to understand what was happening to the book (I actually had to look at spark notes bc I had forgotten some things xD). I laughed so much when the bookworms started spitting out apostrophes, hyphens, etc. which were even written into the book xD

Fun, nerdy, escapist. Alternate reality with time travel, book travel, and dodo birds. And people really care about their literature.

Very strange, but delightful story. Wouldn't it be amazing if people really were that excited about books :0) Looking forward to reading more.

Despite the slight yellowing of the pages in my copy, I still cannot believe this book is twenty years old and at least eighteen or nineteen since I first read it.

Being the Jane Eyre fangirl that I am, I remember how excited I was when I discovered The Eyre Affair. I remember thinking Jasper Fforde was the most brilliant author and that has not changed.

Sadly, I didn't enjoy the story nearly as much this time. It's still clever and witty, and full of so many literary references that even an English major surely needs a guide of some kind. I just struggled. I was (and still am) determined to reread this series (or at least as much of it as I own) but I kept getting bored. I've obviously changed a lot in three many years since I first read the series, and it wasn't until the last few chapters when [redacted] happens that the story started to really suck me in. (Do you need to warn for spoilers when the book is two decades old? I just saw someone put a spoiler alert on Dune, so I'll err on the side of caution

I loved this book so much. Every time I thought the action (And the concepts) would surely be waning, Jasper Fforde just ramped up the fun even more. This is a book for people who love books. Also, if you're a fan of Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett, you'll settle right in. I found it very difficult to put this book down. I'll be reading the rest of the Thursday Next adventures.

Read my review of The Eyre Affair. Updated star rating: I'd say it's 5 stars rather than 4 for me now.

I'm re-reading the series for the 3rd or 4th time - the audiobooks are the perfect level of light but engaging for when I am multitasking. The series (and Fforde's writing in general) is a love it or hate it situation, I think. I find them charming and quirky and funny. A quick browse of reviews shows a lot of people who found it childish and shallow. It is absurd but I enjoy being along for the ride.

This was a throroughly entertaining novel, a bit contrived and cheesy in parts, but overall just really fun. Fforde has quite the imagination!
