I wish I could give a 3.5 stars because this wasn't exactly 4, but it was better than 3. I really enjoyed the universe this book is written in. In fact, I believe it is the way the world should be. We should all know, love, embrace, and exist upon literature. My favorite scene in the book was when Thursday goes to a performance of Richard III in which the audience members are the actors and there is audience participation throughout the play. It was amazing to me. I want to live in this world!

I loved the writing. I loved all the mentions of famous works of literature. I loved all the allusions. It is a great idea for a series.

My only complaint is how Thursday's romantic life ended in the book. I wasn't happy about that. But the plot was great, though, the Eyre part of the book was a long time in coming, believe me.

Overall, it was an enjoyable book. :)

DNFed at 50%. It’s not you, Eyre Affair, it’s me. This is not a style of book I like. It reminds me of the type of silly humor in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy that just makes me grit my teeth. I know a lot of people think it is clever and funny, I am just not one of them. There was also too much going on. I listened to the first HALF of the book and Jane Eyre has not even been kidnapped yet. That is the part of the premise that interested me. I don’t care enough to continue. Hard pass from me.

I so wanted to like this book more than I actually did. The story was kind of all over the place and the main event, for which the book is named, didn't even happen until the last 100 pages. It just felt like it was trying too hard to be cutesy and clever. Still, I may check out the next book to see if the series grows on me.

well it was different

I loved this book. I pulled it from the shelf at a library sale on a whim ,and man ,I'm glad I did. This to me is the perfect book nerd mystery. I loved how he weaved so many classics into references and his witty choice of character names. I'll be thinking about this book for a while and sharing it with as many friends as I can get to read it. Can't wait to read the next one.

This was a very strange book. Part suspense novel, part Douglas Adamsesque romp, part Bronte fanfiction. It was hard to tell what might or might not be possible. The setting is England in the 80s, but everything is different: airships, the Crimean War, time travel, surreal inventions. I suspect things are so different because of the time travel that's going on--though largely in the background, not by the characters.

Anyway, the trippiness of it made it impossible to predict, so the only thing to do was keep reading. It kept me guessing, which I definitely enjoy. It was hard sometimes to know if I was supposed to be laughing at the ridiculous names or crying at the occasional tragedy. Possibly both!

Read this if you're tired of the same old things. Whatever this book is, it isn't that!

I doubted between 3 or 4 stars for this book. I really liked all the ideas and most of the characters (the villain was a little too simple for me). The plot felt like the book should have been longer. or the plot simpler. one or the other, but the back of the book also gave me different expectations (it said they'd jump into Jane Eyre so i expected that to happen at page 50 or so instead of at the very end).

It was a nice, quick read and I think i'll check out the sequels.
